It tuned to rain and there was a lot of it. Its running down my road like a little brook.

Morning all,

Just a quick look in as Colin has been taken into hospital, he was very confused during the day and got worse so son called an ambulance and they thought it was a water infection, they took him in late evening ,son rang early and they had started him on antibiotics and son is ringing again about eleven to see if he's got a bed on a ward .

We had a good covering of snow in the night but its been raining so its all gone.

Morning all,

No frost here this morning either but did it rain last night. It was coming off the west lawn like a stream down the road and round the bend past my car and down the drain. Its still coming out now. I think it must have been so wet when we had the frost and that held it in the ground and then the rain and that melted it so ..... Its still running down now and its raining slightly. Its 11 degrees so much warmer today but pc is telling me the temps to drop and light rain at 3pm.

What an awful start to the new year and I hope its going to change its pattern.

Slept like a log only up once went back to bed and woke at 10am something.

I watched The Railway Children Return last night.

O Mandy I do hope he will be ok and they find him a bed so he can be treated quickly. My prayers are with you . <3

I have a lake in the corner of the orchard and its still running down the road.

Annx Report 5 Jan 2025 13:13

Afternoon All,

What a worry Mandy and poor Colin feeling like that and having to go to hospital. Hopefully if it's a water infection some antibiotics will soon have him back to his old self. I hope he has a bed now and I send him my best wishes.

We had snow falling by 11.00pm last night wnen I looked out and by 2.00am the roof tiles, ground and cars were covered. This morning it had stopped and was soon melting and there are just patches of snow now.

Lunch is a bit of an experiment. I've sprinkled grated cheese over some cod and am baking it to go with a tray bake of courgette, onion, orange peppers and tomatoes. We've got a bit fed up of roast dinners and I'd run out of salmon which we usually do with the veg.

No sunshine and quite dull so staying in, keeping warm and more paperwork sorting this afternoon I think. It's 1 degree here and says rain and snow expected. :-( You must have had quite a downpour Mel if you have a lake and water running down your drive.

Thank you Mel ,son keeps trying to get through but they are so busy the chap on the switchboard said once he's got a bed we might be able to get through to the ward until then it's a waiting game ,he's still in A&E not sure if we can visit him in there so it might be tomorrow before we know anything ,I'm so tired I was awake every hour through the night .
Thank you Ann you posted as I was typing.

Not a good start to the new year Mandy. Hope the antibiotics work quickly and he soon recovers. And also hope yo can soon get hold of somebody to ask. Thinking of him and you. <3

that should be ok Ann as long as you don't overcook the cheese so it goes hard. Let us know how it turns out. We have cottage pie this evening. a jint job between Lyn and I. my job to prepare the onion and carrot and later the potatoes. Mostly cooked in the slow cooker until potatoes added.

Mel sounds like you need flippers. Or an Ark! :-)

Gwyn in Kent Report 5 Jan 2025 14:48

Sorry to read that Colin is in hospital. I do hope they find him a bed so that he can rest properly, while he's being treated and will recover quickly and return home soon.

Saw a gritting lorry out spreading yesterday afternoon, but we had no snow, just a night of pouring rain and wild winds, which have continued all day :-|I haven't ventured out at all since yesterday.

School restarts tomorrow, but I'm not going in the first day.
I will wear several layers, when I do go. ;-)

MillymollyAmanda Report 5 Jan 2025 15:08

Thank you Anng and Gwyn, still not heard anything son says the phone just rings and rings ,still if Colin was any worse they would have rung me or son .

Son and dil go back to school on Tuesday Gwyn thats when the children go back although son has to unlock tomorrow for teachers to go in .

It seems a long day ,its been very grey and dull with a little drizzle at times but not so cold ,I have a nice fire going and I've just cut up a load of veg which I shall sprinkle with honey seasoning and cook in the air fryer I'll probably have a slice of gammon with them.

SuffolkVera Report 5 Jan 2025 15:43

Oh poor Colin. Confusion is a well-known symptom of water infections so hopefully the antibiotics will soon get to grips with it and he’ll be back to normal in no time. I hope he’s got a bed now. I’m sure you must be worried but he’ll be well looked after in hospital. It’s good you have your son nearby. Thinking of you both <3

Your cod sounds good to me Annx. OH loves his Sunday roast but I couldn’t face beef or pork today so we had roast chicken which seems lighter.

Layering up sounds a good idea when you are back at school Gwyn. I know you have had to sit near an open door before and at the moment the temperature is going up and down like a yo-yo.

We had quite a lot of snow during the night and some strong winds which kept me awake but early this morning it turned to rain and melted the snow. Everything is just grey and wet now, though there are still some gusts of wind. I hope your lake is going down a bit Mel.

We took down and packed away all the rest of the Christmas decorations this morning so that’s Christmas finished for another year. Before we know it, it will be Easter.

The fish was lovely AnnG, but I think I'd take off the foil I'd covered the tin with sooner another time, so the cheese browned a little more. I didn't want to cook it any longer to brown it more in case it made the fish dry. Your cottage pie sounds nice for a day like today.

It's good your son kept trying the hospital to get an update Mandy, but lI suppose they are really busy. I hope they get Colin on a ward soon and contact you.

Gwyn the schools here go back tomorrow as well, so I expect OH will be layering up like you for any meetings too! I noticed when I went out yesterday that no gritting had been done like there usually is with snow forecast. I suppose it is something else the councils are cutting back on.

I'm waiting for the food delivery now. 5 subs this time and most are going back. I ordered a pack of tiny cucumbers and they are sending a big one instead that I'm keeping but just hope I can get it in the fridge as it's a bigger order than usual. I'd have thought they would have sent a half one, but they just compare the price to get something else near it. Looks like cucumber sandwiches this week!

MillymollyAmanda

MillymollyAmanda Report 5 Jan 2025 17:36

Son has finally spoken to someone and Colin is still waiting for a bed on the ward .
His breathing ,temperature and blood pressure is better and she said he was more alert today so the antibiotics are helping ,we could have visited but it will be better to visit once he's on a ward .

Annx

Annx Report 5 Jan 2025 17:37

Phew that's another lot of food delivered and put away. However did we manage the wiping of it as well a few years ago. Robert the driver's face was hardly visible under his hat, scarf and turned up collar.

There's still a wide strip of snow at the bottom of my windscreen, so I wish I hadn't listened to OH and had gone out and swept it off. He said there was no need as he would take me if I go out. He'll be expecting to just go to the shop and back, but I wanted to get fuel as well and maybe go to TKMax down the road now people and children will be back at work and school. I'll have to be up early to shower anyway as the windowcleaner is due and he might come as our windows are all at ground level.

The PC is saying heavy rain expected soon, so it looks like more flooded fields tomorrow.

Annx

Annx Report 5 Jan 2025 17:45

Our posts crossed again Mandy! That's some good news that will reassure you to hear Colin is improving now he's on antibiotics. It's a shame he still doesn't have a bed yet, but I expect they are doing their best for him. Hopefully they'll find him one soon so you can visit him.

Vera, I read there are easter eggs in the shops already! :-D

Morning all,

5 degrees and mostly cloudy but it ooks very wet out there.

I do hope they have found Colin a bed today and he is now on the mend. What a horrid start to the new year.

Forgot to get my recykling out yesterday but its going to be so wet I don't really want to put it in the car.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 6 Jan 2025 09:52

Morning all. wet and 3 degrees here and loads of roads in Glos flooded. Daughter and SiL set off for home at 0830, an hour later than usual so it was light. Hope they will be ok no lnowing what the M5/M6 are like. already M5 south 11-12 is shut due to accident and I think flooding.

I have just taken down the cottages so all the buildings and the figures are now boxed up and on the spare bedroom. I have found that this year I can obly safely carry one cottage in its box with plug etc at a time upstairs so that has been at least 8 journeys. Had to sit down for a rest, once I have that part clear I will stop for coffee and then start on the tree.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 6 Jan 2025 10:52

You should have taken the cottages down while you daughter was there and then she could have helped you take them upstairs.

We have sun to the south and blue sky with white clouds to the north so quite pleasent at the mo but still very chilly in the wind. 6 degrees now and pc says mostly cloudy!

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 6 Jan 2025 11:00

I think I explained I couldn't do that as all the boxes for the cottages were buried somewhere in the room they sleep in and I couldn't get to the cupboards. Also they were tired fro bringing me back Saturday.
