Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 2 Feb 2025 10:17

Morning all,

Dry this morning and Iv'e not been up long so don't know if there was a frost. Iv'e had another nose bleed, not one that runs but when I blow my nose it starts. Iv'e put my cream up it as the doc told me but I think the dates run out so I better ask for some more.

Mandy I have 5 girls altogether, three white ones the newer ones and two old black ones. They are not laying but they must be 6 or 7 years od. I maybe will get a couple of brown eggs in the summer. The white ones lay either white or greeny blue eggs.

AnninGlos Report 2 Feb 2025 12:56

Yes Mandy but hopefully both will see me out.??

I am sorting through the hoard of CDs in this house, keeping the ones I like and some can go to Irene for charity. It is annoying though when I find empty cases. T has probably had those in his car and they will have been left there.

I have just spent an hour in the garden. It is a beautiful day, I didn’t even need a coat, just had a sweater on. I have got a half full brown bin now for Tuesday.

You've done well in the garden Ann. Its too cold out there today for me to go out and do anything. I am just going to make some drop scones so I can have them for tea.

AnninGlos Report 2 Feb 2025 15:03

Just went out for another ten minutes to cut a bit more off the buddleia. 8 degrees here now.

Annx Report 2 Feb 2025 15:21

Afternoon All,

Seems a bit warmer today with a little sunshine.

It's a jolt in OH's car too AnnG! Both of our cars have cruise control too and the speed limiter, but we've never got round to using them. Even when OH did so much mileage he never bothered with them. It's the feeling you've lost control like Mandy said. I wish I had electrically heated wing mirrors though for when it's frosty. I'd even be grateful for a rear windscreen wiper on mine!

AnnG they were much quicker than I expected when they fitted our new garage door. It will be good to get it done. It's a shame you need a new desk top as well, but a new one should be reliable and last well. OH has hundeds of CDs, not many are my taste though. You got quite a bit done in the garden if you've half filled your bin.

Mandy I bet Jake is excited to be learning to drive. I remember I couldn't wait to have the freedom of going where I wanted to visit my friends, as my parents had moved house to the country a couple of years before and I hardly saw them since. I bet the meat Jake gets from the butchers is very good.

It's good you are getting more eggs again Mel and handy they lay different coloured eggs so you can tell which are laying. Is the fence fixed now?

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 2 Feb 2025 17:01

The fence is'nt really fixed now but its stANDING UP at least. Pc is telling me rainn on Tuesday. Its been dry all day and we did get a little brightness for a while.

What a todo with the Scotch Pancakes. I read the wrpong recipe to start with so I had too much flour, I had put in 8 oz instead of 6 but I had all the other ingredience in there and tried to do a couple and they were horrid. First I had to put in 1/2 teaspoon of cream of tartar and 1 of bicarb and a pinch of salt. Still readng the other recipe I pout in a teaspoon of salt so tried to take it out but must have taken the other stuff out too. I had to start all over again and I now have a huge plate full of pancakes. I did'nt know where to chuck the other mixture but I think I may cook it in one and cut it up for the birds.

A disarster of a day and a waste of milk egg and flour. Iv'e not eaten anything much yet either just a couple of the pancakes to see if they were alright.

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 2 Feb 2025 17:27

Another quick post from me. I don’t know where the day has gone. I have been trying to do 3 days work in one as I want to spend my time with granddaughter while she’s here and not be doing other things. I haven’t seen F for well over a year and have never met the boyfriend even though they have been together for over 3 years. The first time we were due to meet he had to suddenly fly home to his family in Ireland and last time we were to meet up my OH went down with a bout of food poisoning so we’re all hoping it’s third time lucky.

We woke to a very heavy frost this morning which took a long while to clear. It has been a lovely sunny day but pretty cold. At the moment the BBC weather app says it’s 0 degrees and going down overnight to -3. The app that is on my Apple iPad says it’s 3 degrees and going down to -1. I wonder why the difference.

I probably won’t be posting tomorrow and maybe not on Tuesday so I hope you all have good days with garage door fitting and medical issues

AnninGlos Report 2 Feb 2025 18:35

That sure is a large pancake Mel.
Vera enjoy your special time with Granddaughter and her boyfriend. I hope all goes well for you.

Annx Report 2 Feb 2025 19:02

I hope you have an enjoyable time with your Granddaughter and her boyfriend Vera. It will be interesting to meet him for the first time.

Mel I thought your pancakes still looked edible if not the right taste! The birds won't mind their offering and I'm glad I'm not the only one to have 'disasters' like that.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 2 Feb 2025 21:19

The last pic was of the right recipe and I have had some of those for tea with butter and lemon curd. The big one is the wrong mixture and should last the birds about 4 days. I'll let you know.

Have a lovely couple of days with your granddaughter Vera and it will be nie to finally meet him. We won't worry now we know it may be a couple of days before we hear from you again. Have a wonderful time. <3

I am now going to watch Miss Austin and Call the Midwife.

Night night all see you in the morning.

AnninGlos Report 3 Feb 2025 07:11

Good morning all. Up early to be ready for the garage door tea. Should be 8 to9 but I bet now I am up it will be 9.
Not a good nights sleep as I expected with the alarm set.

5 degrees here and still very dark. I don’t think it is raining.

Frost is beginning to lift ,it was very white again, lots of cloud so no chance of any sun today .

Hooe Vera has a nice couple of days with her granddaughter and her boyfriend.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 3 Feb 2025 09:52

Morning girls,

Don't know if there was a frost as I did'nt wake till 9am and lay there for 20 mins watching the rainbows on the walls from my crystal hanging in the window. It looked frosty last night as the fish tank on the edge of oh's pond was frosen.

Pc is telling me there's going to be a cooling trend over the next five days. Its 8 degrees sunshine and blue sky.

Gwyn in Kent

Gwyn in Kent Report 3 Feb 2025 09:53

Good morning all.
No frost for us lately, so I was surprised to see thin broken ice in a puddle, when we went out for lunch yesterday on the outskirts of another town
We have beautiful sunshine, but laptop is telling me it's 1 degree :-0

Thank you for the photos Mel. Well done for persevering. I'm sure the birds will enjoy your rejects ;-)
Mum would sometimes make dropped scones for Sunday tea. She made them on her well-seasoned cast-iron Welsh bakestone, which she also used for Welsh cakes.
I haven't made either for years. Lemon curd sounds a good addition. :-D

I hope the doors get fixed early Ann. You are certainly busy with all your jobs lately.

MillymollyAmanda

MillymollyAmanda Report 3 Feb 2025 11:15

Mel you can freeze the pancakes for up to three months I had a Google, just need parchment paper between each one so they don't stick together .

Gwyn was it a Sunday lunch you had ,we were going to have roast beef yesterday but we changed our mind and were having it today instead .

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 3 Feb 2025 12:57

The door is finished and looks good, well worth the money I think very solid. I was wondering what happened in a power cut but, problem solved as there are two emergency keys.. two fairly young men putting it in but the electrician was called away so the electrics are on a temporary plug and socket. I have to wait for an email to tell me when he is coming. Bit of a nuisance but couldn’t be helped. It took them two and a half hours to do it.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 3 Feb 2025 13:27

That was'nt bad for fitting a whole new door.

Thanks Mandy I will put some in the freezer.

I have just been attemptng to take down the old little greenhouse on the decking. I have got the pots out of it and taken down the old to,m plants and some of the metal work but need the srewdriver to take some screws out holding it against the top decking rail. Came in as I am hungry.

Its 10 degrees here now positively hot compared to what we have been having. Even the koi are swimming about a bit today.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 3 Feb 2025 15:16

Yes sunny and 10 degrees here too. Although this morning when I walked to Irene’s with a bag full of CDs it was a heavy mist like rain. You couldn’t see it but my hair was wer. It was not cold though.
But the job is not actually finished yet. It is usable but the electrician has to come and finish the job. Still it is nit paid for yet either. No invoice yet.

And Dom is coming tomorrow to install my new PC. Mixed feelings. Good to get it but a lot of work ahead of me to get it up and running.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 3 Feb 2025 17:43

You can do more than I coulkd if I had a new one as I hav'nt a clue what to do in that situation.

I have just tried to light a bonfire again without any luck. The twigs and branches are just too wet. Now I stink so think I will go in the shower now.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 4 Feb 2025 08:20

Good morning all.

8 degrees and dark outside I need it to brighten up as when I switched the bathroom light on it fused so I have no overhead lighting.
I have separate fuses for overhead and sockets. Confused by the fact that lounge wall lights are off the overhead fuse..
I can’t be sure that what the lads did yesterday has not affected my lights as they rigged a temp measure up until the electrician can get here. Fuse boxes are in the garage.. have to wait until he comes. Garage door opens ok I have checked,
