Afternoon everyone,

Sunny here today with a chilly wind , been shopping at Tes*o's ,it was so busy !! you'd think it was christmas !!

I suppose a lot of people will be in tomorrow watching the royal wedding , i might just have a look at the dress and see the service ,i won't be watching all day like some people will , watching the same bits over and over !!

Just wondering if i should get the mower out and cut the front lawn , hubby didn't get it done at the weekend and its getting a bit long, only trouble is its a petrol mower and it pulls my arm trying to start it .

I have been on my own all morning, Ros is out shopping with one of her friends, suppose I will see her about 5pm.

Have spent the last hour looking at the Francis Firth website for Woodford Bridge, where I was born, quite a few names have poped up that I reconise, I have left some comments, so I might get some contact after over 60 years. It will be nice to hear how their lives have developed.

Mel I have tried to Email you, but get error notices. you will have to pm me again with it and I will try again.

I bet you are all getting ready for the "WEDDING" tomorrow. I hope I will be somewhere far away from all Radios and TVs.

Doing Streak, mushrooms, onions, grilled tomato's and Jersey Royals for dinner tonight. So hope she likes it !!!!

I heard on the news Mandy that the supermarkets are expecting today to be as busy as Christmas with everyone leaving it to the last minute to buy food for street parties for tomorrow.

Just had the car MOT done, I'm always amazed, although I shouldn't be, it's only 4 years old, when they find nothing wrong, bit like when you go to the dentist and they say nothing to be done. So that's one less thing to think about. Now I've got to go and sort out my debit card. I kept putting the wrong number in and it's blocked now. How stupid, must have been having a senior moment, I've got to go to a cash point now to unblock it.

Maureen , i couldn't believe how busy they were , are the shops all closed tomorrow ? i have no idea if our super markets are or not !! i haven't looked, i got all i wanted this morning so i'am not really bothered .
I had my card blocked one year when we came home from holiday , do you think i could remember my number , i felt so silly in the super market , and it was good job i had enough money with me to pay !! lol

Been out side and cut the grass , now i'am all blocked up and sneezy with hay fever !!! oh well its done now ,hubby will be surprised , although he'll probably say you can do it all the time now LOL

time for a drink ,then must sort out some veg for tea .

Been fantastic weather here, been in the garden this afternoon with Sofia and then out to pick OH parcel.

I will only be popping in and out of the Royal Wedding tomorrow, only interested in Kate's Dress and what the bridesmaids are wearing,
we plan to go shopping tonight too , OH wants to spend most of the day tomorrow in the garden.

Afternoon All,

I was at the car repair place by 8.00 am for them to put the new motor on my wing mirror. I was expecting rush hour traffic, but nearly everyone must be on holiday.....it was so quiet. I was there over an hour, but it still isn't fixed. Power is going to the mirror through 3 cables but not the 4th. Something to do with the switch now, so nothing to do with the mirror getting smashed by the lorry last year. They spoke to Peu*eot and now I have to see if Peu*eot will contribute seeing as the car is six months out of warranty. It could be 1 of 2 parts that is faulty, the dearest being £78. They were very helpful there though, nothing too much trouble, ringing Peu*eot for me and I have ended up with a free new motor!!

We then went to Hinckley to Mor*isons for a brekkie and you are so right Mandy, the hordes were there before us and it was big queues at all the tills!! We then went on to a big aquatic place (your OH would have loved the Koi in the lake Mel!) to find out what we need to make a very small waterfall running into a pebble pool so we can lay any cabling before we do much more in the garden. It all seems very simple to do and as they have a big sale on at the moment it looks like we will do one....!!!!! Now I have to decide which of the 2 places I have in mind in the garden would be best!!

We then went a walk along a bit of the Ashby canal we haven't done before. Lots of holiday barges moored up. I had to borrow 1 of OH's baseball caps as I forgot my sunhat. I told him I didn't want his old dirty gardening one!! lol We had a bit of a deja vu moment when some cattle started trotting towards us the other side of the canal. OH asked me if they can swim as the were trotting quite fast. lol Then we heard someone calling to them in the field at the back of us........next thing they were going over the canal bridge right next to us. I told OH 'I'm keeping well away.......but at least I have a hat on this time and stood the other side of him'. lol 'Yes', he said, 'you have MY HAT on,' !!!! lol

Frank, I shall just dip in and out of the wedding, just couldn't watch it all day anyway. At least it is only one day. I feel like a mystery trip or a cruise when the World Cup is on!!

OH has worked like mad yesterday and today.......cleaned the bathroom and even the runner beans are in now. (must watch out for frost) He'd been hinting at a match at Daventry tonight, but because he'd been out so much at footie the past couple of weeks and is out at a match at Workington all day Saturday, he knew he was pushing his luck a bit. I said, 'No way, Jose, so he laughed and said hadn't he got enough brownie points!! 'Yes, but they are for Saturday' I told him. Needless to say, being a softy, I've told him to go.

Mandy, I suspect the brother probably did it and she was protecting him, which was a big sacrifice for her to make. I was amazed when they said she lived to be a 100! The prison food must have been quite nourishing for those times!!

That wind has certainly picked up out there.Without it the sun has been quite warm.
LOL Ann I remember your photo last year with the cows on the bridge and your splattered top.

Frank ,it's good to know Shirl is doing ok.I hope you give her our regards too .

Our Tes** was actually not that busy today which surprised me.I will need to go on Saturday to get potatoes and veg for the weekend.I bet it will be busy then.
I have finished those antibiotics Yippee!.So I will be able to have a tipple again. Not tonight though .I will wait until tomorrow evening or saturday as it could still make me sicky.

I had a dream last night ,and Prince William and Kate popped in.We went down to the Red Lion and they gave me a bottle of perfume made especially to celebrate their wedding lol.I think I was in my nightie when they turned up.I can't possibly imagine why I dreamt about them .Maybe there was some mention of them on the tv lolol

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 28 Apr 2011 19:47

What's all this about Constance Emilie Kent?? then.

We went to Bideford just after lunch to fill the car with deisel as I had a 6p off a litre coupon with my shopping and saved it for OH. the car took £91 45p I could'nt believe it!! Only cost me £87 something but I handed over my Morr*sons diesel card so gort all the points on that!! He he he! On the way back we stopped and had a Hockings icecream ....................mmmmmmmmmmm

Sorry Jane I could'nt get you one!! but I did think of you while I was eating mine. OH had a large with clotted cream on top and I just had a medium and they cost £4.90 and then I had to pay 90p for parking!!

Got back home and wanted to get the border plants I put in watered and soemone turned up to see what words I want put on mums headstone!! More delaying tackticks and 2 teas and a coffee later and I got up there and it took ages to water. Then I put in the last of the bunny rabbits (plants) and when I went to give them a drink OH had turned the pump off so I must do that tomorrow. I could'nt be bothered to walk all the way up the top garden for just six plants.

So now I have to get the dinner, pork chops with chicken rice for OH and probably a bit of mash for me with runner beans.

Mel, Constance was the young lady in The Suspisions of Mr Whicher ,who murdered her half brother, it is a true story , and i found her on the census in prison, when she was released she went to Australia and died in 1944 aged 100.

Hi Shirl, I wonder when you will get spring?? You must be really fed up with winter by now. No casting a clout for you yet then!!! lol

Clever you Mandy, I never thought to look her up! Very interesting seeing on a tree where she ended up too and that it looks as if she never married. I also looked her brother up.....he is on several censuses inc 1901.

Mandy, did you see she changed her name in Australia as well to Emilie Kaye? I suppose it was necessary otherwise she would have got no peace or could have been attacked once someone made the connection.

Mel, that icecream sounds yummy.

Today I go to the pensioners session at the cinema for the Kings Speech I really enjoyed it. I thought Colin Firth superb also Geoffrey Rush the speech therapist and loved Helen Bonham Carter playing Queen Elizabeth the queen mother. In all a brill funny film,. We were served coffee and ices and had a good chat with lots of people who remember those war years and after. I loved the decor of the 1930s onwards. Plain but distinctive of those years.

I then had a phone call from Beryl .I said do you want to go to shop tomorrow I thought about Merry Hill and she thought I said I wanted to shop but was very ill and she came over .We had a chat and she had been to a meeting at her local church about ladies wearing the burka
one man said in Macdonalds he was upset how many ladies were wearing it and it scared his children. Beryl said Oh why did you worry you should have said it was a beefburka. I laughed so much. les took her home to get rid of her.My ho said Oh my gosh she can talk never shut up once all the way home. Donnie got a rollocking when they arrived he had
shut what he thought was her cat in the dustbin holder place and it was next doors cat the poor women was looking for the cat all day.Shouting where are you kitty kitty for hours and Donnie even shouted out of the window Oh shut up you are driving me mad shouting kitty kitty. They have to share the front garden so it was annoying he said. I just laughed when Les told me he said he thinks they are both mad.

I have taken my medication now up to eight tablets.

April phoned she said Nannie I had to carry my ballet gear in a black sack today and the teachers thought it was rubbish and threw it out for the dustman mummy shouted at me. I said who gave you the black sack and she said mummy.

Annx I love your threads always well written and interesting not like mine.
Today did another chapter of my book ,the policemans nose turned into a trunchen and Mrs Ramsbotton at the corner sweet shop had a shock when her gobstoppers grew rather large when people ate them.

Have a nice night love to all .

Yes, I saw that he was an author too Mandy. He worked as an assistant in the British Museum when he was 25 and in the film came across as a studious type.
Then I found this on him which is quite interesting too........amongst other things he apparently introduced trout to Tasmania!!

Sheila you have lots of amusing things you write about. Writing your book is a good way to relax which I'm sure would get the thumbs up from your doctor.

Just read that Mandy, absolutely fascinating, I'm still trying to imagine why there was such a huge turnover of servants......200 in 4 years is 1 a week.....all female too??

Well, I think I will hit the pillow now. I bet it will feel nice to have a more settled tummy now you've finished the tablets Jane. I wonder how W and K feel tonight with all that happening tomorrow!!
