Hello Jane Little April is fine she went home today loaded up with cakes she made .If I am not careful she will get fat. I buy these cake mixes and keep them in for her she not only cooks them but will eat a whole plate in one go. Grandad said where is my cake April and she said in my tummy.

Dear Mel sent me a card and it did cheer me up I have been a bit down.I think it is my medication. I am glad the boat is nice for her holiday.

Poor Beryl Donnies gone off on holiday with a friend.

Evening All,

Another lovely day, but I may have spoiled it now I've got my car cleaned!

That's fascinating Mandy. I had a quick look and wonder if the end of the name Cajetan Dias Sontor should be SANTOS as there are a few of those. Also 'Cajetan Dias Santos' appears in the middle of other names with the surname Cuddon including another James. He is James Cajestan Dias Santos born 1884 in Brighton! It may have been a family thing to do this......or an Italian way!! lol I bet you have already seen this... quite a large family!

Glad Mel is at home in the boat now. It's always better when you are settled in and have tried everything. On the Dales programme last night a couple with a farm had turned a shepherd's hut on wheels into a place for walkers to stay overnight and had done it all out to be very comfortable. The father was testing it by sleeping in it to make sure it was comfy and that they hadn't overlooked anything before they let anyone else use it. As he leaned out of the stable type door to say goodnight to his wife and children, his young son aged about 7 said very wistfully, 'Don't forget Dad, if you get lonely, come and get me'. He was so wanting his dad to get lonely!!!! lol

We went to see Coughton Court today, but it was closed so we went to Coombe Abbey near Coventry instead. We took a little picnic with us and flasks of coffee and a couple of newspapers to read and really enjoyed it. lol There were lots of water birds to see and I knew that it was a big Stork breeding place from years ago and they were on a little island and busy feeding their chicks. We also saw Cormorants which I had not seen before. A young woman with a tot in a pushchair had a young Weimaraner with her (Oscar, 6 months old she told me) He was off the lead and lolloping about in all directions with loads of energy and filled with the joy of all the smells, birds, other dogs people to make friends with. Amazingly for such a young dog every time she called him, admittedly it was twice sometimes, he came bounding back to her side.......before bounding off again in a new direction. I bet he slept well when he got home!!! lol

Hi everyone been a bit busy yesterday/today. God while i was reading the posts i realised there are quite alot of you on here!!!

Ann Liverpool is quite up and coming now with Liverpool one shopping complex, New Bars,Restaurants, and New Cinema. The water front looks fab and their are New Hotels also. There was a delay on the opening of the new museum i think it opens this month!

I could of sworn that my Tippy Tumbles had a blue bag what you pressed a button to make her toss over! I got mine Christmas 1969.

I was talking to my two daughters, age 13yrs and 8yrs about things and places i did and went to when i was a child. How i played two balls and took them to school (why don't children play two balls anymore?) Also Marbles used to roll them and hit other kids ones if you did you won theirs loved playing! Remember going to Chester Zoo, Southport Fair, Blackpool Fair and to see the Illuminations. I used to spend some summers at my Brothers house in Wales, he moved their in 1972. He's the oldest and was married with a son before i was born, We went to lots of places in Wales Rhyl,Conway Castle, Colwyn bay etc. My sister inlaw had another boy after me, we all had some great times.

O well carnt think of any more things at the moment, no doubt i will be back soon!!!

Morning Everyone,

Another lovely day by the looks of it. Lucky there wasn't a frost here last night as I left the greenhouse door wide open!

That's brilliant Mandy! I did see the Rainbird marriage but wasn't sure with his wife being Devis on that census. Obviously, with what you know it is the right one. It's great when the bits fit together and you get another step forward isn't it!

Sally, they had just finished Liverpool 1 when I last went and I thought it was lovely. It's nice that it is sheltered but in the open air. The carpark is nice and roomy too. We don't have a Lak*land shop here, so I soon made a beeline for that!!

Maureen I bet you have much more energy now, what's a few creases here and there......mine need a good ironing!! lol I'm glad Alfie seems to have picked up. If he was stuck it would have been exhausting for him to have got himself out with him not quite being as he should be, bless him.

I'm off to do a food shop now. OH is out all morning on some meeting to do with one of his little jobs. Then I think we will sort out where the pebble pool will go. We've decided it should be near the patio where we can see it from inside through the patio doors too.

I wonder where Mel woke up this morning?

Morning Ann and all
Sally It must have been quite hectic in your family.Did you say you were one of 7?
I just had the one Sister and we lived in in a village by the sea in Plymouth. So a lot of our childhood was spent down the beach ,messing around in the rockpools looking for Whelks and all sorts.Just around the corner from the main beach was a smaller bit we called Shelly beach as there were lots of different shells there ,also smooth bits of coloured glass. We spent many hours there collecting.

Ann ,I'm not sure if we had a frost or not last night.I did notice down the village earlier that quite a few things in gardens were covered up with fleece.
It's a nice morning for messing about on the river.I wonder if Mel is at the Helm this morning.

Ann just going to PM you

That sounds Lovely Jane, i can remember the long hot summers so it would of been great to spend it on the Beach. We can get four seasons in one day now ha........................ It wasn't hectic for me as a child, when i was born my brother John was married, then came five sisters 19, 15, 14 12,Midwife had a word with Mum ha and other sis was 6yrs. So you see by the time i was older i had Nephews/Neices who i grew up with!!!

While my family was growing up it was hectic, they tell me some funny stories. My poor Brother was harrished as a boy by all his sisters ha Each time my Mum had a baby he used to say "O NO NOT ANOTHER ONE".Poor thing he so much wanted a Brother ha

Have to go shopping bye for now x

MORNING ALL,

Ros, got the big draw curtains washed yesterday, the smaller ones dried in the sun , she ironed them and put them back, The big ones she washed and left on the line, I being a good hushband went to take the in in the evening, and the LINE BROKE. good job the lawn was dry. I have a spare, so will put that up this morning.

She has gone to one of her fund raising meetings this morning, so no Tele on, for background noise.!!!!

The weather seems to be holding up for MEL, We could see a drop of rain by the weekend. My, how we could do with it.

I left one of my seed trays under the patio table last night, and a Blackbird has had the time of it's life, pinching all the soft soil for his nest. He is likely to have wallflowers growing in it.!!!!

Must get on, She has the sheets in the washing machine, they will need to go on the line.!!!!

Annx

Annx Report 4 May 2011 12:45

Jane, have sent you a PM.

That's the shopping done and a nice easy rice with onions peppers, mushrooms, courgettes and chicken in a tomato and basil sauce for later. OH is eating for 2 I think with all the hard work outside.

Frank, what a lovely thought, a bird's nest with wallflowers around the edge! lol I think I might stick the duvet in the washer.....it should dry quite quickly today. The pillows need doing too and the bedroom curtains. You always seem to be 1 step ahead of me!!! lol

Well, better get the sunhat on and mark out some positions for this pebble pool. It will look as if I've been slaving away by the time OH gets back.

New line up and sheets and pillowcase out and almost ready to come in. They will be ready to iron and back on the bed, save her sorting out another set ( one of many)

Neighbour said, around the allotments everyone one is complaining that the frost has got to their potato's, Gardeners should listen out for the weather forcast. I covered all mine with fleece last night !!!
Have earthed up the spuds, and tied in the honetsuckle on the fence. Broadbeans are looking very good.

Had a reply yesterday from the seed company. They have sent me some more cucumber seeds, which I have put in, hope they do better than the last lot. One plant that Madam bought seems to be wilting away. I told her to leave it to "GREEN FINGERS" but like all you woman you won't listen.!!!!

Annx

Annx Report 4 May 2011 13:37

Speaking of 'not listening', OH keeps collapsing the rotary down because he keeps scraping his head. It seems he never learns and can't remember it's there. I told him it is hard for me to put up so would he put it up again when he's finished. 'Just tell me and I'll put it up when you want to use it ' he said. I told him he's often out when I want it, but WOULD he listen....NO! He's out now and I want to use it!!! It's not just us ladies Frank!! It's good you got more cucumber seeds from the company. I had 5 come up and they are just getting their next leaves. I don't know where I shall put 4 of them.

I do have table and chairs in the yard, when the children were younger they would play out there. We dont get the sun after 2oclock, the houses at the back of me have gardens they face my yard so its great for them!!!

Sally,

My gran lived in Canning Town in the East End of London. All she had was a yard, with the outside loo and the tin bath hanging on a nail, I don't remember any pots or plants. Her kitchen had the old Black lead range. with the oven ar the side and she cooked on the top. The kettle was always steaming when you went in, so a cup of tea was always available.

What a great day it turned out to be. I did a bit of pottering around the garden, got very red across the shoulders. Just had a shower and shave, so all fresh for the rest of the evening.

Done a Shepherds pie for tonight, with baby carrots and runner beans. So only the dish and two saucepans, to wash up this evening.

Might go and have a pint tonight and watch Man. United play. Only if I am a good boy !!!!

sally Report 4 May 2011 17:47

Hi Frank, when my family lived in Liverpool 6 children Mum and Dad made 8 all lived in a 2 up and 2 down. Their kitchen was were they lived, because my Brother, had to have the front room being the only boy for his bedroom!!!

When they moved to Kirkby 1955 it was a brand new 4 bedroom house. They all said it was huge just like a Palace ha Had a separate Toilet and bathroom they were madeup. All the rooms were large. Then in 1961 i came along! As the years went by and only my sis and me were at home, we gave up that house and went to a 2 up and 2 down. So my Mum and Dad went full circle but this time our 2bedroom house was alot more modern to the 1st one!!!

Annx

Annx Report 4 May 2011 17:58

That sounds nice Sally.........pretty with some pots of flowers. I would like that. Ideal for your children with a park so close too. They can let off steam there!! lol

Frank, my gran had just the same, a little yard paved in those diamond patterned blue bricks with the pitch dark privy that had 2 holes in a wooden plank to the side. (did people sit side by side in there then?? lol) The coal shed was next to the privy and was always well stocked from grandad's coal allowance as a miner. She had one of those black lead ranges she did all the cooking on too. The kettle was quite big, hung over the fire on a big hook and you could swing it in and out. It must have been heavy as she would pour water from it still hanging on the hook. I remember all the handles on the pans and kettle seemed to be metal, so she always had folded cloths to use to pick things up. She had 9 children, 5 of the boys were coal miners so just imagine all the washing to do!!!

That will be good if they have some info for you Mandy. It sounds hopeful if they have a photo of her and how nice to be able to see what she looked like.

Frank, my OH must have been a good boy too........he's taken a friend to a match near Alfreton.

Jane Report 4 May 2011 18:15

Been topless again have you Frank? lol.It has been hot here hasn't it.Chris has had to cover part of the plastic greenhouse roof with some rush matting as some of the plants were wilting.
I think we could have a bit of rain on the way tomorrow, but it probably won't make much difference to the garden.

Sally I hope we won't bore you with all the talk of gardening !!!!.My OH loves the garden .Even though it is a lot of work (because it is big) he can chill out and forget about work.
It must be great to have that park opposite you for the children.Sounds perfect to me.

The other night when I was awake at the ridiculous hour of 3.30 am I had my little light on to read.It reflected off the ceiling and I had great fun making shadow animals with my hands.Just like we did as children. It didn't have make me chuckle. If Chris had woken up and seen me he would have thought I had lost the plot lol.I did a bird and a rabbit and an ugly face.

I hope Mel has had a good day.I haven't had any messages today.I wonder if they have managed to get through a lock yet without a mishap.

Voting day tomorrow. Are we all voting ?My son is gutted .He hasn't had a voting letter.
Chris has just gone to pick Hannah up from the station,so I had better think about getting some food on the go.I will probably do 2 sittings.First for Hannah and James and then ours a little later.

I am just watching the news and seeing these awful forest fires. It seems unbelievable at this time of year.
