Glad you are powered up again Jane. The 'lumberjack' here has cut of the small top branches of the smaller cordyline so we now have a Totem Pole. lol He was then sawing away halfway down the trunk and decided it would be much easier to use his dad's electric scorpion saw so will fetch that later in the week. I shall be standing WELL BACK!!

We had another letter from the council this morning and there is now an amended plan for the field for us to comment on with 45 houses instead of 68 .If it did go ahead it is a better layout as our back garden wouldn't be overlooked and less of the houses would adjoin us. I still think it could be very noisy......pity they that decide don't live here!! We'll just have to see what happens next. We have also been asked to comment on the application to build 4,250 homes the other side of this quite small village!!! We already can't get out of our road very easily in the rush hour and it gets gridlocked around the retail park near the motorway junction half a mile down the road. What do they think another 9,000 odd cars will do!!

Hi All
Ann Sofia never stops chatting ten to the dozen in her own little gabble.
There are some words you can recognise. like the different parts of the body.
she will point to her hair and say hair then eyes , nose, teeth ears hands, love's the song heads, shoulder knees and toes etc
and does all the actions to all the nursery DVD's we have.
She loves looking at photo's of the family and will point and tell you who they are in her words, Mama, Bab bow (daddy) , I am Gan, she's nearly got it Gran)
she also points to me as well and it's Sof for Sofia .pointing to her self

She can follow instructions in Italian as well as English. and tells you when she wants her nappy changed. lol

Brilliant Photos Ann.Coombe Abbey looks lovely.
Mandy we put the fly screen up at the back door about a month or so ago when we had that really hot weather. It's a metal chain one .But still some flies manage to find their way in lol

My sister has asked me to ask you all for any help in finding out what the property Number 8 and 9 East St.Tewkesbury would have been used for back in the late 1800's.I think it was built in 1860.She can find no info at all.It has an arch way between the 2 houses which opens into what I guess would have been some kind of yard behind. There are old workshop buildings at the back of the 2 properties.I haven't a clue as how to go about finding anything.
Can any of you help??
The reason she would like to know is she is hoping to move there and would like to name the house something that might relate to how it was used in the past.

My car's booked in for an interval service on Thurs pm.

Thank you for the email Jane.

I used to have 2 pen friends. One in Mayo,a cinema usherette, the other in Marseilles whose English was better than my French.Sometimes wonder how they're getting on.

Jane

Jane Report 9 May 2011 20:22

Do people have Pen Friends these days?Probably not.I had a French Pen Pal (can't remember her name now)She came to stay with us when she was about 14 and was a total nightmare for my parents. She would take herself off to Plymouth and meet up with boys, and she smoked like a trooper lol.We couldn't wait to see the back of her. :-(

Jane , i've had a look at Tewkesbury districts on the 1871 census and there is East Street ( District 3 i think it was ) on there but the numbers of the houses are all over the place ,you might get no1East St then it goes to Barton Rd then back to East St ,but a higher number ,they are not in order at all !!! i carn't find 8and 9 !!!

I wonder if you could find some old maps that might give you some clues , perhaps you could try in the library !!

Fiona

Fiona Report 9 May 2011 21:30

Jane, This might be a long shot but if you do go to the library try and see if you can get some trade directories of that time, the building might have been a shop or factory at some time,

I'm going for a bath now so I will say goodnight

Morning All,

Anpther bright and sunny day but still a wind thats chilly.

OH has another project for the garden now!! We spent a lot of time yesterday talking about it. We have this corigated iron garage at the side of the bungalow and now he has taken the bank and tree stump out you can see it when you come through the arch into the garden. Now he talked about extending it out the side a bit and putting new tin on the roof but now has a better idea!! He is going to build a block wall at the front and face it in stone and set our mill stone in the front and a big window and make some nooks for me to put candles in. The front will be faced with black weatherboarding to make it look a bit barn like. Blocks, cement sand and concreat mix coming tomorrow!!! He got the idea from our holiday as there was a lovely cottage with an outbuilding on the side with a tin roof and a little garden in front going down to the canal.

Morning Mel
It is amazing the ideas you can pick up when you''re on hols.Chris got lots of hints on all this veg growing by seeing how other people had theirs set out, like the raised beds and the greenhouse with the plants planted into the ground (inside).
Yours sounds a great idea.I bet it 'll look great.

Fiona

Fiona Report 10 May 2011 10:45

Morning all
Wet and windy day, not going out anywhere.
Mel your OH is always busy sounds like a great idea,
My OH can't wait till he retires , mind you if he is still able he'll be out a lot more on his bike. He loves his garden and wishes he could spend more time in it. but sometimes the wet weather here in Scotland puts a downer on things, I know if the sun shone more I would be out in the garden more than I am.
I am not much of a gardener ,I like pottering about planting planters and baskets but when it comes to the the REAL hard work like weeds and clearing up, I am useless ,I don't have the strength and my back prevents me from bending and lifting so much.
my job is to look after the plants we have in the house, water and arrange.

well I'm away to put the kettle on.

I do not believe that friends are necessarily the people you like best:: they are merely the people who got there first. <3

Still in shorts, but might put jogging bottoms on, as I think I will cut the back lawn, and that breeze is nipping my bits !!!!

Madam is off out with her friend, going to Wellingborough, then onto a garden centre. I told her no more plants PLEASE> I bet my words fall on deaf ears.

Mel, I have tried Emailing you, I have even asked jane for your address. But still it won't go through. I don't know what else to try. The new project sounds interesting, and will cover up the tin.
