Well here goes with some memories! I can remember going to the Day Nursery when I was about three and waiting for my mother to come and fetch me at lunchtime, one day a week I had to stay there all day and I can remember having a rest on a camp bed, I can remember being put into a seat on the back of her bike, and not enjoying it very much! I remember standing in one of those climbing frames and not being able to climb, and, yes you've got it, crying!!!! I can also remember my mother and stepfather's wedding, and my Granny standing me on a pew so that I could see, I was 4 then,it was just after that awful winter of 1946/7, and I can remember the snow and the cold vividly as we were living in one room then with a thimbleful of gas and I was told to rub my hands as it was SO cold. I can remember lots of things before my mother married again, but not so much afterwards, I guess that once we settled things were less dramatic, and didn't make a particular imprint. |

Hello all and thank you for the warm welcome. Yes, Frank I think I qualify for your harem - 54 next month. I'm from the Central Coast area of N.S.W., Aus. Most of my ancestors are from the West Country where I last visited in 1983 with my first ex half. He is from Yeovil, Somerset if any of you are familiar with that part of your lovely country. Have quite a few Scots, Germans, French and Danes making up the rest of my tree. |

How interesting to live in Aus Kim (I'll call you Kim if that's ok as we have a 'Liz' ). The trees we are chopping down are australian cordylines or cabbage palms I think they are also called. They were about 15 feet tall, but the last winter here finished them all off in the midlands where I live. I had a cousin who emigrated to Australia but don't know where to. I also have a couple of ancestors where were transported!! We've been having glorious weather here lately, all the trees and shrubs are in blossom. What birds do you get where you live? We have colonies of parakeets settled in the south. I wouldn't like the snakes or creepy crawlies!! lol |

Well that wasn't as bad as I expected. No injections!!!!!!.Mind you there were a couple of times I nearly hit the ceiling lol.My tooth (what is left has been cleared out and repacked again and I now have a temporary crown.Dentist now wants to leave it undisturbed for a couple of months,as he doesn't want the risk of reinfecting. |

Hi to Kim, it's always nice to have someone new as it does get us back on track again. I remember both mum and dad worked two jobs to buy the house I grew up in so that me and my brother could have a bedroom each, and all I wanted was to sleep in my brothers room ....lol |

Hi Kim and welcome. Interesting to hear that you come from NSW. I have two cousins living in Aus. My cousin Miranda has lived there since 1970, she went out on an adventure trip, met and married her husband and stayed! They lived in the Blue Mountains for many years, but now live in Brisbane. My other cousin Camilla, went out to Aus with her hubby in 1992, and they live in Melbourne. We all come from Oxford, although our family originally came from North Somerset. I've lived in Somerset for the past 19 years, near Minehead. My two children and three Grandchildren still live near Oxford which is now proving to be a bit too far away, so we HOPE to be able to move closer to them in the none to distant future, that's our plan!!! Glad the Dentist wasn't too bad Jane! the rest of it should be pretty straight forward now! |

Lino!.I can't remember which rooms ,but when I was a tot there was red lino with black and yellow splodges.I think that might have been the kitchen. Then a black lino with red and white splodges.I think that could have been in the hallway.I seem to recall on oilcloth on the kitchen table which I think was brown.I had a little mat by my bed which was cream and pink .It had frayed edges and my name Jane was in the middle.Another present from this man I called Uncle Bill.He also bought me my little wicker chair which Big Ted sits in,and a string of pearls that I wore on my wedding day.He was no relation to me .I never could quite understand why he bought me all those wonderful presents.I think my Aunty Betty lived in a house he owned.I do remember visiting him in his big house in Bideford. He always looked like that chap from the Adams Family.Black slicked down hair ,parted in the middle lol |

HI Kim I was ten when my best friend with her family emigrated to Brisbane she was called Cynthia Jolly and lost an eye when some boys threw a stone at a glass bottle. I cried for weeks after they set sail for Australia then several cousons went to Melbourne and my nephew Andrew married a Australian girl called Donna and they have a daughter Emily. All went on the then ten pound passage. that was about 1949 and then my mums friends daughter went. I do not keep in touch with any of them only my nephew and he is saving his money for the olympic games to come over my brother is going to visit with him at the end of the year. I think the second time and he was not amused about the spiders last time |
