Morning All

I won't be a proper Granny ,just a pretend one lol.In place of my Friend who would have been the real one.It is so sad she isn't here to see her first Grandchild.

I am just shooting off to get things done. Then at 12 I am going to see Fitz.He rang to say he has been sent some info and photos to do with his Grandmothers lot.I don't know what it is but will report back later. It has been sent by a man called Raleigh Travellian(SP) who wrote a book all about The Wernhers .Ann knows who I mean.Fitz did say there is nothing gossipy lol

KIm ,if your daughter is giving back chat I bet you are right and she is on the mend lol.
My sister lives in Gloucestershire.I'll ask her is she knows of Daglingworth.
Must go now BBL

Rainy , cold again today, glad I'm not going out, even got the heating on this morning.

Jane ,I too am surprise to read you are a granny

Daughter no 1 told me yesterday that her new little nephew in Italy is called Tomas, pronounced Toemas,
The Italian Alphabet does not contain the letter H and normally the name would be spelt TOMAZ but the parents don't like the Italian spelling so decided to use the English one instead without the H of course. :S
But mother and baby are both well and hopefully will be home tomorrow.

just done some hoovering and ready for a coffee

Jane , I get what you mean now about being a granny, that is a lovely idea.

Frank Report 16 May 2011 11:36

MORNING GRANNY, I bet it won't be long before you are !!!!

Very dull here, no rain.

Ros is out later to one of the Scouts fund raising meetings. I MIGHT (ONLY MIGHT) try putting up the bedroom curtain rail. I think the srews that are in there now might fit the new pole, if so, no problem if not. Drilling of wall will be required, and I am not certain about that. We will see. She has also bought a new FLY SCREEN for the patio door thats needs to be put up

Conrad repaired my cable yesterday, so have got to finish off front lawn. Ros said leave it, it will be a new style half long and half short. :D :D
Boughtr some carrot seeds over the weekend so will get a few in my PATCH.

It looks like we have bluetits nesting in a little bird house next door just over the fence. Will have to keep my eye on it.!!!

Fiona

Fiona Report 16 May 2011 12:05

Frank if you put the curtain rail up ,PLEASE be careful standing on the ladder we don't want you to fall and damage yourself , lol especially if your on your own in the house.

Daughter no 1 going to come over for lunch , she is going to visit a friend from her old works who had a baby a few weeks ago. so she'll be here for lunch then go to her friends.

BBL :D

OH has just moved the millstone into position on the front of the new build. It must weigh about a ton or so. He moved it from the old orchard where it has been standing against the Beauty of Bath apple tree right across the front of the bungalow. A long way with about four stops for a rest.

We are now going to the garden center to see if we can find anything else to put on the stone walling.

Jane, yes I think you are right it has taken nearly 2 hours for me to get Miranda to have a shower - has that blinkin phone stuck to her ear. Thank you - if you could ask about Daglingworth I would appreciate it.

I thought that might be the case about the PM, will have to put up with Julia a bit longer. Elections not until 2013, going to be a long road, lol. I always loved watching the Yes, Minister and Prime Minister series.

A big trip to Sydney tomorrow, Gordon to be precise on Sydney's north shore to see my doctor. It is a once a month thing and Keith will normally take me for a quick coffee afterwards. Will have to take madam with us tomorrow to be checked.

Off to watch Q & A with my son Joel. Do you have a UK version - a panel of pollies, political journalists and the like interacting with a studio audience. It is very entertaining, especially when a sticky question is asked that they can't answer. Nothing new!!

Might BBL

Hi Everyone

Another overcast windy day but it seems warmer and it isn't raining yet. The washing is blowing nicely and should soon be dry.
Went to the DRS this morning and she now thinks that I am suffering from a lack of estrogen so I have some cream and I have got out my beating the menopause cook book. Thought I was passed all of that but it looks as though I need to buy some So*a products again. Still it could be very much worse!!
Due at the Archive in an hour and looking forward to an interesting afternoon. It will give me an opportunity to discover the name of my GGgrandfathers first wife as they were married in Yorkshire in1869. Although not a direct relation it will be good to know.
Did I tell you all that, whilst researching hubbies tree I have found that his maternal grandfather was married twice and had a daughter to his first wife. We have never heard her mentioned by the family so I am wondering if I should tell MIL or just let it go. Any advice would be gratefully received.
Give Hannah a hug or two. God life can be so horrid at times. :D

Morning All,

Dry here but overcast. Been and done the shopping and it is all put away. I have to make a decision about the patio today, redo what's there so it's level or new slabs and extend it a bit?? It will affect where the other flower beds and the tiny waterfall go so I better get it right!!

Frank, do take care won't you. Wouldn't it be easier to do with Ros there to hold the other end of the pole?

Mel, that was quite a feat for your OH to move the millstone. We could only move one of our big granite rocks with metal bars under the edge!! It sounds as if things are coming along nicely.

Kim, that pussycat sounds a bit of a madam!! Or is she a mister. lol Yes, I think we'll keep our PM too. We have a programme Question Time which sounds like the one you have. Some of the questions do cause a lot of ums and errs. lol I like your photo, looks like great views behind you. It's Magpies that cause havoc around here. At the moment they are up with the lark and trying to pull the plastic guard mesh out of the gutters. They seem to think there are bugs to eat in the gutters. Every time we hear them we have to leap out of bed, because we are not sure whether they are trying to pull the car windscreen wiper rubbers off as we've seen them doing that before too. They also pulled some of the flashing off on the conservatory a couple of years ago. Right pests they are!! lol

I rang earlier about the obelisk that should have come on Friday ........they forgot to let us know they hadn't arrived!! They will ring me tomorrow......looks like another day of stopping in this week.

Annx

Annx Report 16 May 2011 13:19

That sounds interesting Jane........I wonder what Raleigh has sent Fitz......photos too!!

Poor Hannah must be quite stressed at the moment, but hopefully the weight will be off her shoulders before too much longer. I hope the mortgage company let her sell at the new price offered.

Only you will know how she might react to the news Anne. A lot depends on how you present it to her I think. Has she ever shown interest in her ancestors or asked you what you have found out about them?

MEgirl Report 16 May 2011 14:06

Annx that view in my photo is Ham Hill, Somerset. I didn't own a warm coat, so in 1982/83 when we were visiting the in-laws, we went to Glastonbury and I got this wonderful hare coat kept me snug for the rest of the trip. Not much opportunity to wear it back here, but I managed to get some use when I lived in Victoria.

Just fed the ragdoll and she is walking around the house yowling for attention as everything has gone quiet.

We have a real time with the magpies from mid August to the beginning of December. The are really dangerous and swoop causing awful injuries. They particularly like to chase cyclists and my son was always running home from the bus stop covering his head. They usually sit in the trees on our driveway and wait for me to collect the mail!! I really love their warble, but as you said they are pests.

Off to bed now, good night all

Hi Everyone, still no rain here either, might water the garden later, that should do it.

The decking is coming along nicely, seems very strange though as before I had to step down on to the patio it is now the same level which means It's about 2ft higher but it will be nice to then step down from the decking into the garden. Have only a few decking down at the moment it's mostly the frame, so I have to do a balancing act to get into the garden, hope son doesn't leave it too long before he comes back to finish it.

I watched the Eurovision Song Contest and will definitely not watch it next year. I was almost asleep by song 5. Nobody in europe seems to like us do they, even Ireland didn't give us 12 points, it's really annoying how all the neighbouring countries give each other all the high points.

I think our equivalent of your Q & A Kim is Question Time, it's on a bit late for me so never watch it.

Alfie still has his bandage and plaster on Jane, although he has worked out how to get his ear free now so I have to keep sticking more tape over the plasters to keep it in place and he is still scratching but at least it's catching the plaster and not him. I just realised as he was walking towards me what he reminds me of, one of those virtual kittens on the DS player.

Afternoon everyone,

Well we have had a little rain at last , but the wind is so strong !! the Gazebo is nearly taking off ,have pegged some washing out ,but its keeping it on the line that's the problem .
Frank, please be careful hanging that curtain pole , wait till Ros is with you , i gave hubby a warning about climbing up on the roof this morning on his own ,son has a bad head this morning so was staying at home which meant hubby had to climb without help.!!!

Hubby's home ,better make a cuppa

I will echo Fiona and Mandy's concerns Frank, with your track record recently climbing on chairs or ladders is not a good idea.

Just now and again I wonder why I have cats, today is such a day, one of them has pee**d on the bed in the spare room, as if that wasn't bad enough, having to wash the duvet and the cover, I had already washed my winter duvet and left it on the bed, kept meaning to put it away, and that got sprayed as well, but to be fair they couldn't get out last night, I forgot to to put some bricks or something outside the cat flap to build it up as it's too much of a drop at the moment. Suppose it could have been worse !!!!

Today's the day, hopefully new grandchild will make an appearance, I'm not going too far from the phone just in case. I'm convinced it's a girl, daughter is convinced it's a boy, either way let's hope we will be welcoming baby Harry or Chloe very soon.

Got back from the garden center about 4.20. I have bought an oblisk for the border, Ann!! About 6ft it says but by the time the legs are in the ground I think it will be shorter than that. I am going to put sweet peas up it this year and not bother to disbud the side shoots so all my flowers shall have short stems this year. It does take a lot of time to grow them on a single cordon.

Also bought some elodia crispa for my two small pools and some water hyacinths and another floating plant. Can't get over the price of the water plants since I had the pet and fish shop. Water hy's were 95p each and these cost me £2 each. Also got a black square planter to sit my fairy on. The one with the flute. Could'nt find a nice small plinth anywhere so went for the pot instead. OH said he can fix her to it through the hole in the bottom of the planter so she dos'nt get blown off again. May fill the pot with pebbles too.
Got a umberella plant too. I like those. OH bought me lunch so I don't have to cook again tonight. Hooray!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jane Report 16 May 2011 18:10

Where has today gone???? It is nearly 6.I just seem to have been here and there and got not much done .All my good intentions just vanished lol

Fitz has been sent some old copies of photos of the family of George Mankiewicz .and some copies of letters .They were sent from a man in America to Raleigh Trevellyan when he was researching his book, back in the 80's
Ann ,I think Fitz will be asking you to investigate a few more people lolol :D

KIm ,I worked at a Hospital called Ham Green at the time you were visiting here.I wonder if Ham Hill is in the same place.Just outside Bristol?Did you go to Glastonbury Fesitival or just Glastonbury. My daughter is going this year.I think it is 4or 5 days for the festival !!.Heaven knows how she will cope in a tent with her bunch of friends and not a hairstraightner or hairdrier ,or a decent loo !!!!.I have agreed to let her take my car so they can all fit in just the one.I think I must be mad lol
It is my son's girlfriend who has the Ragdoll Cats (not his daughter) !!!!!.He has no daughter (as far as I'm aware lol)

Anne I do hope things will settle down for you now .Us women have to put up with all sorts don't we ,and sometimes it seems never ending.

I must get on and get some grub in the oven .
I don't think Chester needs anything else to eat tonight ......He is fart**g his head off here ,and I need a gas mask lol

Had a wonderful afternoon at the Archive. It was so amazing to be allowed to handle such old documents from 1700's. My job is to transcribe details from the back of the muster rolls and there are all kinds of details. The writing and spelling are very different from today but I cannot wait to return next week.
Ann MIL often talks of her family but her mother was married three times and had 8 children. She does not know a great deal about her father so I will need to tread very carefully but I am sure that she will want to know especially as I expect her step sister will be dead as she was born in 1908.
I need to do more research first to make absolutely sure of my facts before I tell her but I am 99.9% sure its genuine.
Must go now and change before Rotary. Back tomorrow. ;-)

I had a lovely afternoon playing dress up with April .April was Barbie and Maddie her friend Cindy and I was Ethel the grannie. Charming I thought I supplied loads of nice pretty clothes for the girls and they found me something that looked like an old blanket .I was grannie Ethel and will refrain from ever playing dress up again. I would not mind but I was nasty grannie Ethel.I had to poor tea out all afternoon water from a plastic teaset
and pretend to eat Jaffa cakes.

I went to see Beryl In the morning early and threw the washballs away when she was not looking two sprained ankles is enough .Beryl wears heels so high it is a wonder she does not have a serious accident.

We decided to go to a meeting for the locals who were very fed up because the church hall was closing down where many people meet for a friendly chat .Beryl was up front saying I think it is terrible closing this hall down Mr Banks. His reply well I do not ever remember seing you here Mrs what is your name. I said to Beryl have you been here then to meetings and she said no. I waited for about 10 minutes and slid out of my seat and went out to the car. I sat in the car and fell asleep . I heard a tapping and a very angry Beryl stood glaring at me we had several exchanges of
rude words before we got home.

April had done the tea when I got home Cheese Salad the only thing was the chedder chesse was about 6 inches thick and she had gone a little over zealous with the salad cream. But it was a sweet thought.

I am so glad David sold his place he should be here we have loads of boxes everyday with the stock for the shop.

The butcher had left some dreadful looking meet on the doorstep for the dogs my husband said it was lying there open and he thought his inners had dropped out.I had to laugh. I had to cook it straight away.

Well my neighbour was going on about Jedwood and the Euro we thought they did well and Blue but in my opinion it was political in the end it started off well. I kind of switched between that and Britians Got Talant

I love all the threads from everyone the new people also.I tried to read a lot of them.I am not a member of franks haram but nice to see it growing.

Well will go and sort out AprIL She will be chatting away on the phone to mummie for ages if I do not stop her. nite nite have a nice evening all.
