Congratulation on the safe arrival of Baby Matthew Tree.It must be very mixed emotions for Jessica .Happy in one sense and sad in another with Matt no longer here.I expect April will be excited to meet her little Brother.
I wish them all well, and hope Jessica keeps up her strength by eating properly now.

I looked up your Dr Schloeffel KIm.He's quite a handsome chap isn't he!,and certainly has quite a practice. He is obviously a well sought after man.

I really thought we might have had some rain a little earlier, but no .It just passed us by.It looked like it may have been coming from Franks direction.
I'm parched, and need a cup of tea before my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth. :P

Congratulations Sheila and to Jess too, wonderful news. Great idea to have Matthew Tree everytime someone says that's unusual Jess will tell them how much Matthew loved the forest and it will keep his memory alive.

I have got one of those cone things for Alfie, I put it on now and then but he can't get out the cat flap with it on and he can't eat as it keeps knocking the side of the dish. Nothing's easy with that cat.

Evening All,

Congratulations on the new Baby Matt Tree. Good that all is well with baby and mum. Now Maureen..............? I wonder when you will get news!!

Frank, that is a lovely garden, and must have taken a few years to get it looking so good.......a credit to them. They have quite a few Acers and pretty shrubs. I have some of that black grass as I call it (Ophiogonon???? sp) only mine is in a red pot with red bizzie lizzies.. I think I also spotted a sorry palm like mine.

Kim what bad luck to have ME. Years ago a girl where I worked had it and I'm not sure her exhaustion was always believed when she had to take time off in those unenlightened times. I looked at your doctor.....he looks very nice and you were lucky to get on his books and have him take such good care of you!! Your poor daughter and all those tablets.......I hope she is feeling a bit better now.

We have been doing bits and bobs today. OH cleaned the conservatory gutters (lucky me I get to do the rest!! lol) He's weeded everywhere and planted a couple more shrubs while I put french beans and leeks in and transplanted some lettuce. Then we came inside and had a hoover each.....he did carpets and I did the hard floors and some dusting....not much though!! lol Hate H*W.

The new electric saw arrived today so OH will take it to his dad's with the old one tomorrow morning when he picks MIL up for a hospital appointment in Leicester. He's going to time it all so there's not much time for chat as he's not looking forward to his dad wanting chapter and verse on what happened to the old one.!! lol Even though the new saw is identical except for the colour he just KNOWS his dad will say it is not as good as the old one!! lol He's just dropping them off as they like to go in the cafe to eat after and then catch the bus home. After that I think we might go to the Rhododendron gardens near Matlock, unless it's raining in the morning.

OH has gone to a match near Melton Mowbray now, having got 'permission'!!!! lol I have noticed he seems to get so much done on the days he goes to matches??

I can show you another tip Shirl......my back garden!!! lol It must be a bit miserable though when it keeps raining. You must have the cleanest yard!! lol

Evening everyone,

Congratulations to Jess and Grannie Sheila , that's lovely news , bet April cannot wait to go home and see her new brother .

We've had a few spots of rain ,but that's all we've had , the ground is so dry , i've been busy today planting up some hanging baskets ,and when hubby came home he hung them up for me .
Frank, what a lovely garden Conrad has , i hope you've been a good boy and had a rest today ,no more falling about ,even if it was on the bed !!! ;-)

Sorry to hear that Hannah wasn't lucky this time with the job Jane , she must have made a good impression to be a reserve though , if only the house could be sorted out ,the poor girl deserves some good news , it must be all she can think about !!

Poor little Alfie Maureen , i bet he wonders what you are going to do to him next !!LOL first the bandage ,then this great big thing round his head!!

DIL wants to go to the car boot tomorrow , depends what the weathers like though .

Get Packing! David lol.Wine boxes are quite sturdy too.
Anyone want a dog????.Chester is driving me barmy. He can smell sausages cooking and is acting like something demented.I have almost run out of his food, and the pet shop where I buy it won't have any in until thursday.Luckly I have been able to order a bag from the vets and can pick it up tomorrow afternoon. Those are the only 2 places I can get it here.Trust me to have a dog that has to have special food.

It seems quite dark, but still none of the wet stuff that we need so badly.I am watering my neighbours plants from the water butt. But at this rate it will be empty soon.
Thankyou everyone for messages about Hannah.I just want a magic wand to wave and make life better for her.She deserves it.
Must go and see if dinner is ready.
Poor you Shirl with all your wet and windy weather. What with your snow and now this.I'm sure it will get better soon!!

Hi to rainy Canada, Send some over here, we need it. I looked around the garden and greenhouse this evening and decided I won't water tonight.!! It might bring on the rain, (we can hope)

I looked in my shed this morning, opened a draw a found a skeleton of a MOUSE. That did it. I cleaned out the draws, put all the tins and tools in their places. Sweept the bench, and even sweept the floor. I will have to get a new carpet in there, the mice have chewed the edge of the old one Will ring the carpet fitters in the morning !!!!

Good news on the baby front Shelia, Hope everything is fine for Mum and baby.

No Jane, it didn't come from over here. We have been waiting like you.

Ros, went of to Tesc# this morning. Three hours klater she returned. I don't know what she finds to look at, then she told me she had been in Town as well.

Lamb Steaks in mint for dinner tonight. Jersey royals, fresh cabbage and carrots. Yes Jane more LAMB.

Maureen Our old dog had to wear one of those "LAMPSHADES" She would put her head over her dish of food and push it round the kitchen. Some sight to be sure, to be sure !!!!.

Mandy, I should be so lucky to be falling around on the bed. !!

Reloaded my Ebook over the weekend 107 books, and still room for more. Have started reading Geoffrey Archer. Very good start to the book, I don't want to put it down when in bed. But have to get my beauty sleep.

Going to watch an hours T.V. then off to bed with my book.

Good night GOD bless everyone.

Being allowed to play in the street with friends without fear. Favorite game a piece of rope wrapped around a lampost for swinging, off ground tick or kick the can were some of the best.

:-)

David Report 17 May 2011 21:05

Remember hopscotch?
And skipping rope.
Every one seemed to do it.
I remember more than one skipping the same rope.
Even mothers joined in.
You never see that now.
And throwing 2 or 3 balls up like a juggler.
Chasey,tiggy.All those games have gone.

Annx

Annx Report 17 May 2011 21:24

Hi and welcome Joan, I used to like off ground tick, I'd forgotten all about that. It seemed much more exciting than ordinary tick.

Yes, I loved that skipping with several 'in' at once and one holding each end of the rope. Us girls would tuck our skirts up our knicker legs so the rope didn't catch. lol We had chants we'd sing for skipping and for ball games up the wall and for the clapping games.

When did these games all disappear and what games do children play at school nowadays??

Filled any boxes yet David?

Toby went a bit loopy at the weekend ,i think he'd got a bit high on the Creosote smell , i said to hubby what's wrong with him he was going round as if he was a puppy again ,jumping about and playing !!

Frank, we have carpet in the shed its an old bit that was left over so we thought we'd put in in the shed to stop the dust from the concrete floor ,i even give it a hoover now and then :-)

Hi All
Hi Joan,

I can't remember playing street games, played with my pram and was never allowed to cross the road. must stay on the side of my house. I even put the dog in the pram and pushed it up and down lol.
Wasn't allowed to walk to my friends house she lived a couple of streets away, so dad took me in the car and dropped me off and came back at an arranged time. we lived 5 mins from the sea and there was always people on the beach, strangers of course, I remember going with my mum to play on the sand but was not allowed to cross the main road on my own.

My mum used to get really annoyed when the 2 boys from next door they were much older than me, came and played in front of our house with their football, and always managed to kick it into the daffodils breaking them. for some reason the never played in front of there own house.

My cousin-in-laws funeral is on Monday, still not sure if I am going to get there, it depends on whether OH can get a days holiday and we will then have to drive down to England and back in the same day.

Going to lock up now and go to bed with my book
catch up tomorrow.

Ann,I went past a large school playground the other day .I couldn't see any skipping games or anything like the old playground games at all.Just all the children mooching around. We did the skipping, hopscotch, leap frog, climbing on the 2 bar thing we had.Hanging upside down by our knees and if very brave our ankles.Jacks,marbles.The playground was a hive of activity .
Hi Joan,I never heard of kick or tick. Was that just played in the street?I never lived anywhere to play in the street. It had to be in the garden lol

Well dinner is done and all cleared away.Hannah and Chris have both gone to bed.I am left to let Chester out for a wee .
Frank I could do with one of your books.I have run out ,so will have to have a look on the book shelves. It is unheard of me not to have 'the next book' to read.I can't go to sleep unless I have read at least a few pages.
I get through a couple of books a week.Trouble is I can't put them down ,and so get through them so quickly.

Mel I was remembering just now when I was thinking how sleepy I was. That scary 'Sandman' clip that you sent us all a few years ago.I can still remember my reaction at the end of it lol.Do you still have it to hand?
A lot of our friends on here now would not have seen that lolol
Still waiting in anticipation for Maureen's next Grand baby .It must be soon!

Frank you have a posh shed.....with carpet lol.No wonder the mice like it.

Chris just said tonight he heard we are due for HOT WEATHER.I haven't seen the long range forecast.
Off now.See you in the morning .xx

Hello all,

Thank you Sheila. Joel was going to be a girl so I had Christie Maree picked out. When he popped out I was astonished as I had no boys names sorted. After about 10 minutes I decided on Joel Christopher - Joel for Joel Garner (Big Bird) was my favourite WI cricket player and I'd always liked Christopher. Miranda was named after the mermaid in that old Glynis Johns movie "Miranda", love to watch it when it comes on, but not so often these days. Miranda Rose was received with mixed feelings, especially by the ILs, but it suits her perfectly. Congratulations on the birth of Matthew, I hope all is well with mum and bub.

Hello Tracy and thanks for the welcome. You get used to the spiders and crawlies. Usually they leave you alone, although I had a stand-off with a black house spider last night. Kiara, my cat was going to take him on, but I got the dustpan and broom and flicked him out the door. I hate running into their webs. I get them down and the damn things are back up again in no time. You have to admire their weaving skills I suppose.

Jane, you had a look at Richard's site, isn't he devine???? <3 <3 I was referred to him in 2002 and I wasn't keen to try another doctor as I had been all over the place. I sent him a detailed letter of my ailments and the day came for my appt. This heavenly creature walked out and shook my hand and said follow me - oh happily, anywhere any time, lol. Keith looked at me and said "If he's going to have that effect, we'll go home now!!!!!" Haha he has come to respect and admire him as much as I do. He gives Keith a check up everytime we go there and always has a joke and a beaming smile. He borrows books off me and I don't get them back for years.

Jane what sort of dog is Chester? He sounds adorable. I had a beautiful Border Collie named Zoe. In my better days I used to walk her around the hills of Warburton in the Yarra Valley. We lived there for about 6 years as Keith was the local bank manager. Poor Zoe had to be put down in August 08. I miss her so much, but I have never seen a dog eat so much so quickly.

Annx, Miranda is doing much better thanks. Richard got her sorted, hopefully. I would like to think she could go back to school tomorrow - I need the break!!!

Hello Joan are you new to this group, me too. I remember playing jacks and elastics at school. The boys across the road and I used to catch mice (icky) and build cubbies in the sandhills nearby. I can remember flying down our street with my brother on his home-made Billy Cart - such fun, safe and secure. They were the best days!!!

Frank thanks for those jokes. They were waiting for me this morning; keep them coming as they are a good tonic for me.

It is a sunny day here, washing is out, slight breeze and about 22 degrees. I hate winter and summer, can't cope with the extremes in temp., but spring is my favourite time when the birds start chattering and everything has that fresh green gleam.

David we have just turfed out a lot from our garage. Have donated a lot of toys and books to the Salvation Army, blankets for the animals to the RSPCA and the rest out on the curb for the roadside collection. Oh to get rid of the clutter, feels so much better.

Off to have some lunch, good day to all when you eventually wake.

Cheers for now, Kim

Morning All,

Well we have carpet in the shed too! I thought we were the odd ones, but obviously it is the 'in' thing!! lol When our local 'Handy Andy' fitted a cupboard in the bathroom years ago he roared with laughter when he saw our shed carpet.

Me and my friend weren't allowed to play in the street either. Where I lived in Staffordshire there was lots of open bracken covered heathland to play on and make dens. When we moved to the city we were near a main road. We did once do hopscotch squares on the pavement outside our house and mum made us wash them off so we put some more on the path in the back garden!! We mostly played in the garden or local park. Once we could swim at about age 11 we used to walk down to the canal, about a mile away. Sometimes we collected an alsation, Bruce, from the garage near there to take with us. One of the big attractions of the canal was the gipsy horses that were tethered on waste land there. We would spend our pocket money on bags of oats and take apples and bread crusts with us for them. We even got a plastic collapsible bucket to top up their water buckets from the canal. lol Sometimes we would take some jam sandwiches with us and just walk as far as we could get by lunchtime, have our picnic and then walk back. We loved fishing in the canal and seeing the dragonflies and water voles.

Well I better get a move on, OH will be back soon and I need to get showered ready to go to the Rhododendron gardens.

Morning Ann and All,

Dull again here today. OH has to go and get a pipe on the digger mended AGAIN, same one. He said the man did'nt do it properly in his opinion. I think he is taking it somewhere else.

I should really go shopping today but I just can't get myself round to it. I used to like shopping but perhaps it was just that I got away from mum for a while and now I don't have to!

Just been outside to have a look at the build and it's raining that horrid fine rain. OH needs more cement too so he will pick some up in Holsworthy.

I forgot to say while we were away and had walked down to a little shop for some provisions we passed a house that had big stone paving slabs on the front. Guess what we saw chalked on the slabs!! Yes hopscotch. OH said to me you don't see that much now do you.
