Jane, just phoned daughter no 2 again, she is ok, a bit sore where she bumped her head, and a big bruise from the seat belt. Story goes so far, No idea how boyfriend lost control of car but it seemed to roll over and over a few times landing in a ditch at the side of the road on its roof , ditch which was full of heather and brambles. car was a 2 door fiesta and they could not open the doors or windows, so they undid the seat belts and boyfriend climbed to the back where the window was broken and managed to smash it open with his hand , he's only got a cut, not a fracture it seems, it is usually a very quiet road, but today there was quite a few cars going past and a car stopped and it was a lady who was an St Johns Ambulance member, she got out to help and phoned the police. when they arrived they breathalysed daughters boyfriend but were happy to see that he was sober .
they did a lot of checking over the car and saw that it had a very bald tyre, which is illegal, also a snow tyre which should never have been on at all. Boyfriend dad spoke to car hire firm and they are making arrangements for the car to be collected and brought home. what the outcome with them is , we don't know yet. and that's all we know so far , will get more details from them tomorrow.
But they are both fine and as you say it will probably be tomorrow when they wake up that they may find more bumps and bruises.
I'm going for a bath, as I need to relax, my mind keeps going round and round just thinking how lucky they were.
Hey July 28Th Jane was my mum & dad's wedding anniversary.

Fiona ,you must be so relieved to have spoken to your daughter.I reckon tomorrow when they wake up they will feel really stiff and bruised, and feel like they have been hit by a ten ton truck.I know I felt like that after a car I was in ended in a ditch(and that car didn't roll over) I thought I was getting away with the dog walk in the morning. But no! Chris has surgery (again on a saturday). The more I think about it ,he has little time off really. No wonder he is cream crackered all the time. I will be off to bed soon ,so will say Night Night now. Toodle Pip everyone xx

So sorry to hear what happened to your daughter and boyfriend Fiona and thank goodness they weren't badly hurt and that no one else was involved.
I'm afraid Anne is right in what she says. When at work we were told it was our responsibility to check the hire cars/pool car before we used them as it would be us breaking the law if we used them in an unroadworthy condition. The last thing you wanted to be doing when you had appointments and targets to meet was checking lights, brakes, indicators, tyres, wipers and horn!!! I must say since then I do these basic checks on courtesy cars. I imagine the car hire firm could have problems claiming on their insurance if the police have said the car wasn't roadworthy.

Fiona, what a frightening episode for your family. I am very relieved that they weren't badly injured. You poor thing; what a shocking news to receive. Usually, you would sign your contract, petrol in the car and off you go. I don't know anyone who would walk around checking tyres and looking under the bonnet of a hire car!!
It is p***ing down here, just like in your photos Shirl, all dark and only 3.30 in the afternoon. The boys are watching the Sydney Swans game coming from Melbourne and Miranda has gone to the boyfriends - peace. On a serious note, I have just received some blood results back for her and they are not good. Cholesterol through the roof - for a 16 year old and these were done when she was not eating and very sick with the kidney infection. How bad would they have been a month ago??? Maybe she will start eating properly before it's too late. The doctor must be horrified.
Jane I will be very interested to know where Hannah's friend hails from in Aus. I've always imagined myself living in a cottage just like that of your friend. Postcard perfect!!!
Frank will be pleased to see you and Ros in Bateau Bay. The locals are very friendly, that is the ones that aren't high on drugs or running around with knives and other weapons. Just joking, we have those problems, but no more than anywhere else. Loved your pics, you looked very relaxed and very much "the man about town".
Annx, thank for the lovely photos. Sorry you lost those palms, how healthy they looked in those pics .
Anne I hope your migraine improves very soon.
Off to have a cuppa with the boys. Hi to Maureen, sorry if I have forgotten anyone. Not game to move from this page in case I lose it all, ahhh!!!

Morning All,
Fiona what a horrid experience for your daughter and boyfriend. I do hope they are not too sore this morning.
I have had many hired cars and vans in my time and have never checked to see if everything is ok!! I think you do expect that you would not be hired a car with faults. Will they be able to claim for their injuries?? It is certainly worth a try.
Rain in the air here today and it has been raining in the night I think. Thank goodness I brought all my washing in last night.
We have to ring for a wedding this afternoon at 2.45pm for 3pm wedding. This is quite annoying as we wanted to get on with the garden things we were doing. OH got quite a lot done on the build yesterday and he also filed the square pot I bought to sit my fairy on and tie her down so she won't fall and break this time.
I bought two floating ball solar lights for my reflecting pools on Thursday and they came on for the first time yesterday night. They are blue lights and looked quite good. They also have a little thing on the top so you could hang them up. May buy some more as I love garden lights that are solar powered.
Still trying to fill the tank from the well. I had the hose on all day yesterday and it is still only trickling out but I am getting there as the tank is a good half full now.
Kim my goats birthday was 2nd June. They were lovely and I raised them from a few hours old. When I moved down here to Devon mum would'nt let me bring them with me so I had to find a home for them.
Have some more chicks hatched out too. I think this one has 5 or 6. I have put here in the arc with Henny Penny and her chicks but they seem to have been sharing all the chicks and don't really know who is mum. They are really funny as they just go under whoever is nearest. If the weather improves I shall try and take some pics. I have taken some but not downloaded them yet.

Morning all Hi Kim
Another windy day, chilly but at least for the moment the sun is shining, OH gone to help friend with the fish tank this morning, I am still in my dressing gown, but will need to be ready for when he gets back at 1 , we have to collect daughter no 2 and boyfriend at the bus station in Edinburgh not Glasgow, it was cheaper to get a ticket on the bus straight to Edinburgh than to get a bus to Glasgow and they would also have had to change buses along the route.
I'm ready for another cup of coffee, and then I must get dressed.
BBL
Just had a text from Daughter saying they were on there way to the bus station in Inverness, and she will phone me when they are on the bus.
Quotation no 34 <3 You will never have a friend if you must have one without a fault <3

Morning Mel Just seen your post. We really don't know what the situation is at the moment with the car people yet . or boyfriend insurance, but I don't think he will be able to hire a car for a long time. OH was saying this morning , the police may also take in consideration boyfriends driving skills, we don't know what speed he was doing at the time of the accident, or what the conditions of the road was like, after all even though there was faulty tyres etc on the hired car, they did drive up for 4 hours to Inverness with no problems,
These questions hopefully may be answered when we see them them this afternoon, all I can think of is that my girl is safe.. she's 24 I can't keep her wrapped in cotton wool , All you mums and dad's will know just how I feel.

Jane I am imaging you in those pantaloons, it's a good job you can't see my face :D sorry. maybe you thought you might like to be princess Jasmine for the day and is Chris your Aladdin , hope your wishes come true ,has Chris got the Magic Lamp LOL ;-)
OH back with the fish tank etc. Oh what a lot of stuff. !!!!!! the lady who passed away was very much into fish and has all sorts of accessories, OH collogue from work has given him three big bags full of heaters food, cleaners and equipment. plus fish, and a bigger more modern tank , OH thinks he might do a swop and change his old tank for her more modern tank. as long as he does a swop and not an addition to, ,I couldn't cope with 3 tanks to listen to bubbling away and to feed while OH is swanning around the world. :-( lol

Morning All,
It is awful if hire firms don't check the cars themselves before they go out, especially as their insurance could be void if they are faulty. As you say Fiona, at least they are safe!!
Jane I was looking at some of those pantaloons the other day......think I will steer clear!!
Thanks for the lovely photos Frank. Ros looks a lovely lady!! Wish I was brave enough to fly anywhere!!!

Well done you Mandy.I had to get James to help me do my pic. Our Anniversary is actually on Monday, but with it being Bank Holiday I might not have got the flowers then.
Anne, you won't believe this, but I took those Harem pants back and have come home with a smaller pair lolol.Guess what ,they keep slipping too.I think it is my silky pants that don't help.Maybe if I had a cotton pair the trousers might grip on a bit !.I have to say though they are comfy. Why don't you give them a go.I will probably only wear them at home and in the garden. You should have seen Chris's face when I came downstairs in them!!!.
Fiona I bet there will be some big hugs when your daughter and boyfriend arrive.Maye even a few tears of relief. It sounds as though your OH is very pleased with all his new fishy things!!I would quite like to have tropical fish .It is so relaxing watching them, and all the lovely colours. But I couldn't be doing with all the cleaning out etc.Rachel in Dubai have a wonderful tank.It is quite large .I know she said that when they move back to the UK(whenever that might be) she will have the Tank and fish brought back too!! What a miserable morning it has been.It looks like it could be brightening up a bit now.But it isn't that warm ,and quite windy. When I was at Tes** it seemed to be lots of men shopping. They didn't look a happy bunch.I got a really dirty look off one when our trolley's nearly collided, and I heard a little mutter of swearing lol.I just smiled sweetly. :P

Hello all, I did post something on here earlier, but the internet went down and I lost the lot. Frank those two dogs were hilarious!! Jane OH bought me a pair of black harem pants this year, but they looked so terrible on me that I handed them over to my daughter - she likes them!! Frank she's a bit young to be joining the harem - anyone over 25 is ancient to her, lol.
Would love to see a pic of your flowers - have a really happy anniversary.
Things happening with this site. Problems occurring with other threads. I thought it was me :S Emoticons land wherever they like :-(
It is 11.35 pm EST and I'm off to the couch for some viewing. Cheers.
Clever Mandy, OH had to show me what to do.
I walked away from the computer and the paragraphs have altered. The comment to Mandy was made first and then I put the time and signed off. Don't know what's up, but it's a bit odd. Maybe I need a pill, lol.

What is all this logging in thing going on before you can reply to a post??? Poor Shirl still can't get on here.Apparently they can't find her registration!! She just asked me to let you know.
Hannah has just got in from the hairdressers and says my Harem pants are fine !!! That was a bit of a surprise. She agrees with me and says it is my slippery knicks that are dragging them down lol. Chris went for a little nap about 2 hours ago.He is still asleep. He must be tired! It is probably the thought of being married to me for so long lolol I bet my son is still in the Pub Celebrating finishing his 3 years at Uni .I dread to think what state he will be in later lol.His girlfriend still has 2 weeks of exams.
