I remember it too Ann, doesn't the next verse go something like: the captain said it will never never do, never never do, never never do, I can remember one girl would stand with her arm up as high as she could on the wall and all the rest of us would hold hands and go one at a time under.

Jane

Jane Report 30 May 2011 18:21

Here we go
It's to do with the Manchester Ship Canal built 1894.
The big ship sails on the ally ally oh
The ally ally oh The ally ally oh
The Captain said it will never never do ,never never do,never never do
The Captain said it will never never do
On the last day of September

The big ship sank to the bottom of the sea the bottom of the sea
The big ship sank to the bottom of the sea
On the last day of September

We all dip our heads in the deep blue sea ,the deep blue sea ,the deep blue sea
We all dip our heads in the deep blue sea .on the last day of September

I'm sure I have made some mistakes in typing this.

I am guessing the rhyme is of a ship that sank after being set to sea from Manchester.(on the last day of September)

Anne

Anne Report 30 May 2011 18:49

Gosh we used to sing The gooid ship sails etc whilst skipping but I thought it was about a ship which sailed from the Tyne.
Fiona Congratulations to your daughter and a good pass at that. What is she hoping to do now?
Frankl You seem much better and thanks for the photos but please don't overdo it.
Had lasagne wedges and salad for tea followed by poached plums ( Jam** Oliv** 30 min meals book) with rice pudding, gorgeous even if I say so myself.
Now going to see if there is anything worth watching on tele.
Has anyone managed to get Olympic tickets in the draw? We are still waiting. :D :D

Well I feel very pleased with myself now after hovering most of the bungalow and doing a load of ironing.

Fiona so pleased your daughter had good results. Well done dau no. 2. Must have cheered her up no end.

David if you are going to take 75mg asprin each day make sure you take them after something to eat and not on an empty stomach as asprin make the stomach bleed. OH and I take them as well as simvastatin, which should be taken at night.

Sun has come out here and OH has been in the garden this afternoon picking up large stone. Thats why I got the hoovering done as he hates it if he is in.

I didn't know it was 30 years Jane, and I'm sorry I didn't mention it when you phones.

Ours will be 33 years on Friday. How it's lasted GOD only knows especialy in the last 7 years since my stroke. POOR ROS.

I will have quite a lot to say to my GP in the morning. I've never heard of this, someone will phone you later, after you have dialed 999. I just thank GOD that I didn't have a major stroke. With my first one they left me in a cubicle in the hospital for about four hours, before a doctor saw to me.

I am now in dressing gown, and going to settle dwn to a bit of tele. Let you know how things go tomorrow.

Hello all, my goodness it has been busy on here during the night.

Fiona you must be over the moon with your daughter's achievement. That's brilliant. I hope your other girl is recovering well and life moves forward for her in only the best of ways.

What a wild night we've had here; the rain has been sweeping across in horizontal sheets and two trees have come down in our reserve, falling away from the house. Lucky for us. We had storms like this 4 years ago, that caused massive damage and power outages for weeks on end. We lost part of our roof and had to replace the carpet at the time, but the insurance company was excellent and it was all done very quickly.

Frank I will be anxiously waiting the news from your visit to the doctor. To be honest from what you described, I said to my OH that I thought you'd had a mini stroke. They should have taken you to hospital at least to check you over. So glad you are able to post on here to keep us updated.

Mel I loved the flower you are so clever!!

Jane, sorry I thought your anniversary was on Sunday. Congratulations for yesterday - 30 years strong. I bet there's been lots of laughter and much happiness in that time, well done %26lt%3B3

Anne I had a look at the Naturetrek site and the list of holidays. No wonder your OH loves to be travelling - oh to have a job like that!!! Some beautiful places and wildlife to see, it would be amazing.

Jane have you ever heard of an ear migraine? My son has been getting them for years. It starts off like an ear ache and swaps to the other ear, then he gets the nausea and then he starts vomiting. I give him a Maxolon for the nausea and then a soluble aspirin, but he has to have something to eat first and by this stage he is a sickly white. That regimen seems to work best, if we act quickly. Once it passes the ear ache goes and he's back to normal. Sometimes they come in clusters or he might have nothing for 4-5 months. His ears are fine; there's never an infection - just seems to be part of this process. I have heard of stomach migraines with some people. He takes a Sandomigran as a preventer each morning and this has helped somewhat.

Good luck with your Olympic tickets everyone. It is an exciting time. I remember we tried to get into the swimming events, but they sold out pretty quickly. We did manage to have two full days of events in 2000 and saw Cathy Freeman win her race and of course, Marion Jones, but we know how that ended. The atmosphere was one of delight and comradery (sp.). The transport system magically improved for those two weeks - miraculous!!!!

Annx, you know these men they think they can fix everything. Well this needs a plumber!!!!!! We can't go on this way any longer. When the weather clears a bit, someone will have to come a have a look at this problem. My hubby has many cheeky one liners (cheeks again, lol). He has me in stitches. Must be the Tallarook background (another one for you to look up - little country place with a pub, a pool and that's about it). Life's rich if you can laugh together.

I must send Shirl an email - miss her on here.

I don't know that sea song at all. Maybe I've heard it at some stage!! My grandmother used to sing me this song, it was one of my grandfather's ditties:

My Polly's red drawers
My Polly's red drawers
With a hole in the middle
for Polly to P.....
My Polly's red drawers.

Anyone heard that before? I loved that one.

OH is out again soon in this awful weather, but only locally tonight. We are having steak and kidney pie for tea - smells delicious.

Be good, hi to Maureen, David, Mandy and anyone I might have forgotten.

Cuppa time and a piece of mud cake. It is 3.49 pm EST

Cheers all, Kim

Morning All,

The garden is sodden this morning........lovely! Must have filled the water butts nicely after yesterday and last night.

Waiting for the window cleaner now. When we started with a window cleaner when OH retired he said he would deal with it all and be here when they came. (well it was to become his job when he retired!! lol) Where is he now........out on his own errands!!!!! I wanted to pop out too........so why is it me still here!! He's getting too good at sidestepping things methinks.......new tactics are needed!! %3B-%29

Last night when we went to see the film, on the grass verge right on the very busy motoway junction were 3 baby bunnies. They were completely unfazed by the traffic nibbling right next to the kerb at the edge of the road!!

Better pop up to the greehouse now and see if the slugs have found the lettuce yet.

Oh, he's back!! At least he was quick!

Morning all,

Sunny and cloudy here today but last night at 12.10am we had a flash downpour. It was siling down! Hope there is more water in the well now after that.

I have never heard of ear migraines or stomach ones come to that!! Must be horrid.

Never heard of Polly's drawers either. My dad used to make things up and sing to me when I was small. There were two songs he sang to me, one went something about:-
little blue man,
I know why your crying,
someone took your kiddy car away.

I used to think about a little man being the colour blue!!

The other one was :-

Mummas little baby love,
Shortening shortening,
Mummas little baby love,
Shortening bread.

With this one I used to think about a brown loaf on a bread board being cut with a knife making it shorter! It is strange the way your mind works when you are tiny.

Ann OH said he would clean our windows outside when I stopped the window cleaner coming when mum was ill. I think he has done it once since then!! They badly need it at the moment. He does our with the pressure washer so it dos'nt take that long and I get all the sills cleaned too.

There dos'nt seem to be much to watch on the telly at the mo, does there. I like the old fashioned series and programs about life in the old days and Time Team and things like that. Have always wanted to go on a dig but never have. We have a bottle dump up in OH's land at the top of the garden where he dug up a load of bottles when he first moved in. Mostly Camp Coffee ones but some interesting ones too. It is a place that was over the bank from the cattle sheds that run along the roadside. Some of the sheds are still there but some were made into a big workshop by the bloke who had the cottage before OH. They still have the mangers in them and wooden hay racks.

Frank hope you have a go at that doc when you see him, I know I would.

Oh I have found it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Little Man You've Had A Busy Day

Little man you're cryin', I know why you're blue,
Someone took your kiddy-car away,
Better go to sleep now,
Little man you've had a busy day . . .
Johnny won your marbles, tell you what we'll do,
Dad will get you new ones right away,
Better go to sleep now,
Little man you've had a busy day . . .

You've been playin' soldier, the battle has been won,
The enemy is out of sight,
Come along there soldier, put away your gun,
The war is over for tonight . . .

Time you stop your schemin', time your day was through,
Can't you hear the bugle softly say?
Time you should be dreamin',
Little man you've had a busy day . . .
Time you should be dreaming,
Little man you've had a busy day . . .
( Rest your weary little head . . . )

Mel, I really like that one, such powerful words, but at the same time gentle and calming. The second song I have heard many times - sounds a bit like it's from the southern US states. Polly's Red Drawers, I think my grandfather made that one up to annoy my grandmother. Well, she passed it on to me, but didn't like me singing it. Where's the fun in that???

It is 8.04 pm EST and time for Bondi Vet - such a good show!!!!

Hope Frank is having a good check up at the Docs.

I haven't heard any of those rhymes before. Mind you my dad didn't do much singing. Usually it was the war songs. lol It's a Long Way to Tipperary and Pack up Your Troubles in your Old Kit Bag!! lol He was a big whistler though. You don't hear people whistling as much as you used to do you? He was a great one for those rhymes that tricked you into saying something rude though. You know......Polish it behind the door!!! :O :O

Kim I must google those places. Ear migraine must be very painful. My first MIL said she didn't know what a headache or indigestion felt like!!!! Amazing

Hi all,

I'm back ftom the Doc's and had lunch. Told him all about Saturday evening, and he decided I had had a slight stroke. As to my treatment from the Emergency service. He typed it on my notes, but would make no comment as to the treatment I received !!!! I now have to have more blood test, which they can't fit in till next MONDAY. I thought he would have done while I was there. !!!!

Had a big bowl of mussels in garlic butter sauce for lunch. Will stay away from everybody this afternoon !!!!

Have managed to feed the tomato plants in the greenhouse, much to Ros's annoyance. I then triped walking through the side gate, and scraped my arm down the brick pillar. Thats it she sain, In doors and sit down, and don't you dare come out again. THATS TOLD ME :D :D :D

I see you have been finding a lot of old songs. I think most of which are Negro working songs. One I remember. was one my dad sang "GIVE ME A NAIL AND A HAMMER AND A PICTURE TO HANG ON THE WALL" must Google it !!!!

Hope you are all well, and thanks again for your good wishes and concern.

LUV YER ALL!!!!
