Mel Fairy Godmother Report 21 May 2025 21:03

Yes Mandy thats right I remember now. We had Sausage fried mash leeks carrots celery and red onion tonight. He mashes his tato with the skins on and then frys it. It had no nice crispy bits but it was tasty.

I could'nt open the back door when I came home so its just as well Stu had freed the front door up for me so I used the front door key to get in. Thinking I have to get a new lock I tried it once I was in and it did open. I think I may have ocked it from the inside and it did'nt like it but I must remember to keep a key somewhere or with Em for the front door incase it happens again.

On the way there Ruth up the road to Stu sells plants and she has'nt had anything out the last few times I have been past but tonight she had so I had a look on the way back and she had a Nemisia that I hav'nt got in a pretty pale lilac and white so I went down the parking money purse and bought it. Its called Wisley Vanilla and it smells of vanilla. Must remember to put more change in my parking money purse I keep in the car. She had petunias too and bizzy lizzis and lot more and herbs so I will be back. Her prices have gone up though.

Evening all,

It's been a lovely day lots of sun but cooler with the wind again .

I sat down for my meal tonight and boy did I twist my knee its the same one I had pulled last week so I'm sitting here with a heat pad underneath my knee .
We got our shopping done this morning as we should be calling in to sons in the morning its Jakes birthday and he will be there as he's on holiday this week but I'll have to see how my knee is .

Oh Vera lucky you getting a little rain ,shame it was heavy as it wouldn't have soaked in as well as a nice steady rain .
Hope your aches and bruises from the tumble soon ease for you .

Mel I'm sure you had Stuart last week as you said you had the bacon joint .

I'm sorry you're still very sore Vera but keep moving and I hope you feel a bit better tomorrow.

I have plants my tom plants in big pots now and they are in the greenhouse. I also sowed french beans which came in the post today along with cues that came too. My runners are just popping through and I chucked the ones I sowed before that were no good. Tied in a Clematis. Teexted Stu to say could he make it tomorrow and Iv'e just had a call from him to say I am to him tonight. I was sure I went to him last week. I shall have to consult my diary. The weeks pass so quickly I never know where I am. Its good though cos I hav'nt got anything out for dinner. I did have lunch today too.

Edit I never wrote it in my diary last week.

Funny weather today. It's been good to see a bit of rain but I don't know if it was enough to do much good. It started raining as I came out of the hairdressers but it was really just a light shower. Then later at home we had 2 really heavy showers with quite a bit of thunder. For a while the courtyard outside the house was like a paddling pool but it didn't take long to dry up when the rain stopped. It's been very cold as well and OH had an electric fan heater going in the lounge from about 10 am to 2 pm. Now the sun has come out.

I forgot to tell you about our talk at the Club on Monday. It turned into quite a lively evening. The speaker was a lady we have had before when she talked about life as a magistrate. This time she titled her talk "You Decide...." She told us of a couple of real cases and we had to think what verdicts would have been given. The main case was of a lady of 82 who left the post office with her bag in one hand and a walking stick in the other. Someone pushed her from behind, grabbed her bag and ran. Unfortunately the lady fell and, even worse, banged her head. Our speaker had a handbag with her and withdrew from it things the lady's bag had contained. There was a purse with the £120 she had just withdrawn from the PO, a couple of letters, doorkeys, phone, credit card and a separate slip of paper with her pin number and so on. The perpetrator was caught. He was a drug addict needing money to feed his habit and had used the keys to break into her house whose address was on the letters in the bag. The lady spent 7 weeks in hospital and never left her house alone again. We had to consider everything she had lost and what punishment should be given. I won't go into all the details that we were gradually fed but it provoked a lively discussion with most of our group being of the "lock him up and throw away the key" attitude. I sat on the fence a bit as I didn't think it was black and white but could see so many shades of grey that I couldn't decide what ought to be done. One man in our group is 80 and is normally a grumpy old man but he is also an ex-policeman. He shouted at the poor speaker "it's a load of c**p" and walked out. His wife just laughed and said "Ignore him" so we carried on. As I said it was quite a lively evening. Btw, the 19 year old who committed the crime was given 7 years, the maximum that can be given by magistrates. He was let out on licence after 3 years, which means if he committed any offence during the remainder of the 7 years he would be hauled back to prison to serve his remaining time on that offence and then in addition would have to serve any time he was given for the offence committed while on licence.

I am really aching a lot now but it's not so bad if I keep moving so I'm now walking down to the post box to get dil's birthday card in the post. Our only collection of the day goes really early in the morning so I have to remember to post things the day before I want them to go.

Skies cleared a bit and the suns been out. Not too bad out there but the rain did'nt do much there was only a little in the wheelbarrow about a quarter of an inch if that. My second lot of runners are just showing as nothing came up of the first lot I sowed I think the seed was just too old.

Morning girls,

Was cloudy when I woke this morning for the loo at 6.10am but I went back to bed and then slept till 9.50am and here I am sitting at my desk and pc says 14 degrees and rain to stop later but its not raining. It did rain last night before I hit the sack and that started about 12 am I shan't know how much we had till I go out and see whats in the wheelbarrow and trailer and the ground outside is drying up so it could'nt have been much. I bet it smells lovely out though after that sprinkle.

I netted the strawberries yesterday and I am hoping I hav'nt advertised that there's something juice under it. This year I have put white netting on and its ususally green. I got the green out of the shed and did'nt think the new one was big enough to go over the whole barrow.

Vera yes bruises can hurt more a couple of days later when they really come out. I bet you have a really colourful rear end now but be thankful you did'nt hit your head or injure your back.

I want to do more in the garden today if the weather allows so I have something to show BIL when he comes down and I want to strim round the trees in the orchard so that look nice and tidy.

O gosh just looked out the kitchen window and where the sky was blue with huge white clouds now it grey and looks like more rain. Funny how it can change like that in a few minuets.

Aawe poor bunny.

Vera aches and muscle pains always take two days to come out with me. Hope they ease by tomorrow.
Apparently we had a longish shower over night so no watering this morning.

Good morning AnnG and all

About 13 degrees at the moment and very grey. It looks like rain and I hope we get some but not till the afternoon as I’m getting my hair cut this morning. I’ve also got to pick up my meds and go to the bank and I also want to look for some bits in Roy’s so it will be a busy morning.

I think the muscle aches from my tumble have taken a couple of days to really come out as I feel stiffer and more achy than yesterday.

I need to go out at 9.30 so I’d better get my skates on. Probably bbl

EDIT. RIP Mel’s bu nny

Been in since 7pm. Got the back fence back up sort of and put cable ties on it and on the rose Iv'e put along it. Its that thug rose that smells like old fashioned cold cream probably Ponds. Got lot of ivy off the wall and filled the trailer up and took it round outside the wall and emptied it onto some cutting BIL had dumped out there and set fire to it so thats one trailer load burnt up and out of the way.

Mandy I am so sorry I have only just read about your poor sister. I do hope they can give her treatment for it and she did well to go to the docs so quickly. They could'nt have been too worried as they would have kept her in otherwise. She's better at home with hubby and I hope the appointment comes through quickly.

Minced lamb hot pot for dinner tonight and yes I did eat at lunchtime I had a thin slice of porkand egg pie and coleslaw and a small packet of crisps and a big glass of water. The midges have started biting here so I may be on some antihystamins each day now. More blasted pills.........

That's good your daughter and sil arrived safely Anng ,a day of rest tomorrow then before the journey back , are you staying at your daughters or going to a holiday home.

Oh that was a very poor carvery today then Ann ,they obviously don't see if the veg is cooked properly or perhaps they think the heat lamps will finish them off .
Oh yes please to the mouse pattern I think son and dil's cats would love one of those to play with ,I never buy the WW now sometimes I flick through a copy when I buy the television book .

Vera it sounds as if you were very lucky with the tumble ,I wondered if it was the ankle /foot that you broke the bones in as that might have set it off again .
What did your OH say when you told him ,mine would have said did you damage the pot or the plants lol only joking .

That's for the wishes for my sister ,I was pleased she sounded OK when I spoke to her .

I’m glad your daughter and sil have arrived safely AnnG. I expect you are like me – a bit on edge while family are on the road and relieved when they walk in the door. Enjoy your time with them.

I don’t know how you manage to go without food all day Mel. I am sure it isn’t good for you. At least make sure you have got liquid to drink while you are outside. Poor bunny having to face the wrath of Mel. In our old house I had a large veg garden and we were surrounded by fields and farmland with lots of rabbits but they never seemed to go near our plants. I can only put it down to the fact that we had 2 cats then and one of them was a real hunter. She’d have had any bunny that ventured on her territory.

I’m so sorry to hear about your sister Mandy. That must have been a shock and a worry for you all. I’m glad she’s feeling a bit better now and hope they can quickly get treatment underway to prevent it happening again.

Hoping you are feeling a lot better now as well Gwyn and that the antibiotics are doing their job. Keep resting as much as you need and don’t overdo it.

What a disappointing carvery Annx. You’ll have to find somewhere else next time you fancy a carvery meal.

Thank you all for enquiring about my argument with the plant pot yesterday. I think the pot won. Really, I think I’ve got away lightly. My muscles are a bit stiff and achy but nothing seriously amiss. Even my back seems OK. My ankle is a bit sore but feels as though it only needs a day or two to get back to normal. However my backside is decorated with a VERY large, very purple bruise. If it were on my arm or leg I would send you a photo but I didn’t think you’d appreciate a picture of my nether regions. Having seen how hard I must have hit that pot I can only feel thankful that I wasn’t a few inches to my right as then it might have been my head that hit it. I think I would have been in serious trouble then so, all in all, I got away lightly.

Annx Report 20 May 2025 16:07

I'm sorry to hear about your sister Mandy. It must have been worrying for you all. It's good she's feeling better as it must have been frightening for her. Hopefully they can treat her now to help prevent it happening again.

There's a pattern in WW for making knitted mice for rescue cats (or might be good to use up scraps of wool for things like the school fair, as I bet the children would want them for their pets at home). If you are interested I'll photocopy it for you.

Well our carvery was pretty disappointing. We were only given a couple of very thinly cut strips of turkey an inch wide, the carrots seemed raw and the cauli quite hard and even the peas were quite solid! We decided we shan't go again as they don't do decaf drinks anymore either so we just had water.

We did better at the factory shop where I got some small compost bags and some weedkiller. I also got us two quite small flasks for us to take in the car filled with cold water on hot days. I read the other day that plastic bottles of water in a hot car leach more plastic particles. They were £4 each but will last ages. I remembered my full wardrobes and resisted buying any clothes!

We called at the big Co-op on the way back and saw more bare shelves, but we managed to get some things our little Co-op doesn't sell and the Bob milk that keeps ages.

Mel, did Adrian get Echo working properly as well? Oh heck that poor little bunny has strayed into the dragon's den! I hope he runs off and doesn't come back. I noticed the edge of two Hosta leaves had been eaten this morning and thought about that rabbit we had in our garden that time. We never did work out where he got in so another might find the same way!

I see your daughter is with you now AnnG and hope that you are all sorted ready for your break after tomorrow. I hope you have a nice time and some more nice weather while you are away.

How are you today Vera? I hope your ankle is ok and that you aren't too stiff and bruised.

Daughter got here ok, they are both now reading the paper on their IPads. Apparently the sun shone all the way down and it is warmer here than up there. And traffic was heavy.
No Mandy not tomorrow Thursday.
Hope carvery was good Ann.

Vera how are the bruises.

MillymollyAmanda Report 20 May 2025 13:47

Afternoon all,

Much warmer today although yesterday was a nice day too ,Colin had his cataract appointment and after the tests he was told they are not ready to do yet .
We did a few jobs in the garden in the afternoon.

In the evening I had a phone call to say my sister had had a couple of funny turns on saturday and they took her to hospital but she came home in the afternoon but then Sunday she had another one and had trouble getting odd words out ,yesterday she had a doctors appointment and she told her the scan the hospital did showed a tiny bleed in the brain so she's now getting an urgent referral to the stroke clinic .
I rang her this morning and she said she now felt a lot better and she's doing her jobs OK but just forgetting the odd things ,bil said she had forgotten how to use the washing machine, hopefully the appointment will come through fairly quickly.

Anng safe journey to your daughters when ever you go I assume its tomorrow .

Ann hope you enjoy your carvery I haven't heard you say you've had one for a while .
Handy OH can swap books with his friend .

Mel I hope you've had something to eat today before you go out in the garden thats a long time to go without something inside you especially as your doing all the work in the garden .

Vera I hope your not to bruised after your garden tumble so easily done and once you start to go there's no stopping yourself , be careful out there today .

Gwyn I hope your feeling better and the antibiotics have helped .

Wish we could have a just little rain everywhere is so dry and the water butts are going down ,Colin cleaned one out the other day as we had emptied it ,lots of dark sludgy water in the bottom yuk .

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 20 May 2025 13:30

Enjoy your carvery Annx.

Shopping came and no subs today which was good.

Fed the birds and chickens and fish and topped up the birdbath.

Am just going to have some lunch and then put the strawberry net on as I have seen one turning red.

Iv'e also had a very small baby bunny around the patiop yesterday and today it was up on the patio so that needs to be getting rid of and I shall have to fix a bit of netting under the patio and across the end of the decking where it can get underneath.
