Thank you. That is a very real possibility. It was a sudden death so probably no chance to change his will.

It's speculative but he may just have forgotten to redo his will

Who knows his state of mind was then

Maybe the will was only discovered much later after his death

It takes money to do a probate too

He must have known she was dead because he left as soon as he could after her death and the children all went into the Tenterden workhouse (boys not the girls they went into service with family members (Howards..the tanners in Tenterden).

Thank you...I saw the entry on the register. Beneficiary his wife Rachel but she died in 1845 , he died in 1851 and this will was registered 1855. Very odd. :-|
