Why is it when entering a birth place it says no matches , it appears to be a glitch

Entering where?

Is the birthplace you are entering a known town, city or village?

Yes, I've found that in the last couple of days on GR, David, while I've been going through my large tree and filling in details for people who have only had basic entries up until now.

Not only birthplaces, but also places of marriage and death are not being recognised at the moment - even Edinburgh, or Belfast, for instance.
Slightly annoying, but I expect it will sort itself out before too long.

If you feel like complaining about it to GR, email [email protected].
It'll take them a few days to reply.

I have just added a number of new relatives to my GR tree and there has been no problem with the birthplaces.

If the OP referred to GR, it would seem that the issue is resolved

Yes, I've just tried it. It does seem to have been fixed since this morning.
