Where is the best, most reliable place to order copies of birth, marriage and death certificates ? and of course best value. i have used ukcertificates before but wasnt very impressed as it took longer then they said to arrive, i gave them precise dates name and ref numbers and then they put Balham on it instead of Barham, which is a different town completey though the contents were correct. any recommendations ?

Jackie, only ever use the official government site for £7. Or you can use the records office local to the event for the same amount. Out of interest, how much did that company charge? I would add that because of the surge in family history as a hobby (all the tv progs etc) certificates are taking some weeks to come now.

as i said i used ukcertificates, they said it would take 15 working days - it was longer there was a spelling mistake of the town and all cost a whopping £28 not very impressed and wont use again thanks for the comments

£28! They have a nerve, dont they, all they are doing is ordering through the GRO site for £7 so are charging you £21 for the service!!

I think that when the OH retires next year I will set her up as a certificate ordering service. With a 300% profit margin I will be able to retire too!

Not a bad idea Brian. I mean all she needs is a website and thats it, even with own expenses she should make about £15 a cert x what, modest 50 enquiries a week £750 a week!!

Don't ever go anywhere on line other than the official GRO site. They have a fixed price structure and all the resources you could possibly wish for. Reg
