Can anyone suggest where I look next to try and find details of my GGrandfathers death. He was Louis E Burwash born 1866 Hackney have cert. He married Ellen Jane Hughes in 1887 Islington have cert. They sailed to New York in 1890 dont know what state they went to. They came back to England as they are on the 1901 census, Ellen died in 1949 in East Ham, but at present cannot find no record of his death, have searched and searched all the quarters up to 1957!!!! when he would be 109, dont think so do you. All suggestions would be welcome have been looking for so long now he must have died somewhere? Bemused Gwen |

Have you got Ellen's death cert? With luck it should say if she's a wife or a widow on it, which would at least tell you which direction to go in! Merry |

Hi Gwen, just wanted to check, did you mean to type that Louis was born in 1866? If so, then if you've checked to 1957 he would have been about 91 then, not 109, or did you get the 109 figure working from census information ? Sorry, not trying to be picky, just trying to help out. I know that it would have probably been uncommon for someone to live past that age, but I have ancestors who lived until they were 95, although admittedly, not that many of them. Best wishes |

Could they have gone back to the States and Ellen returned to England after she was widowed? Just a thought. |

oops yes my mistake 95 not 105 and I have looked for lewis and louis, also his middle name was Ernst or Ernest so have covered that one as well. Looked at army death records. You would think it would be easy with a name like Burwash !!!! |

Gwen, have you found Ellen's burial place? Perhaps the cemetery, or church has records of others buried in the same grave? |

Thanks John I have visited the family burial plot at City of London but no record of Louis or Ellen. I do not know where Ellen was buried so that is another idea I can work on. Gwen |

Hi Angela Thanks for the idea I have searched Ancestry to try and see if I can locate him on the American records but to no avail. I might just have to give up and accept I dont know what happened to him. Gwen |
