i am trying to find the birth of a rellie and i've looked and looked ! he was james henry churchill, born in little compton warwick 1892,he was born before his parents married, would he have taken his mothers maiden name? or his fathers name? in the family bible i have his down as 'churchill'. he was killed in action in 1916, would i be able to get a death cert? thanks for any help.

The original image is blotchy, but it looks like Churchill. Ancestry doesn't seem to have transcribed the father's details. The image shows: James Hy Churchill age 52? Head Long Compton, Warwickshire Not sure of the age.

The birth doesn't seem to be on FreeBMD under Churchill, but it may not have been transcribed yet. Do you have his mother's maiden name? Have you tried trawling the Ancestry beta index?

He is on the CWGC site and gives his date of death as 7/7/1916 age unknown maybe you could contact this site and they may point you in the right direction to obtain a certifcate. I am not sure they registered deaths for WW1 as there was some many. Gwen at coggie corner

Hi, they did register deaths of WW1 but you need to look on 1837 Overseas I managed to get my ggrandfather this way, but all it says is killed in action Hope it helps Julia
