Oh, mixed responses then. Could anyone please tell me if they contain the parish of Alverstoke in Hampshire? Cos if not I won't bother. |

I've been extremely lucky with the parish records on Ancestry. A lot of mine come from Yorkshrire and there are 4 parishes listed on there that have been useful to me - I have got so many from them I can't count. Now I'm just off to Northallerton on 26 of this month to get photocopies of the originals - they have saved me sooooooo much time. It's also nice to have them and sort out who's who in my head so I don't waste as much time at the CRO, which then enables me to look for other things that aren't on there on Ancestry. I would say if they have what your looking for Ancestry parishes are GRRRRREAT!!! Snowdrops |

They are transcriptions and only cover a few parishes, and I would not imagine any are 'complete'. Ancestry have not transcribed any themselves, so they are just ones that they have managed to acquire which had already been done. If the parish you want is in there I guess it might be very useful. There are no images of the actual records on there (actually, there aren't any anywhere that I know of with the exception of Medway in Kent which has its own parish record images website, but then those ones are not indexed!) Kate. |

I found some for rellies in Yorkshire on Ancestry. The same events were on the IGI, but on Ancestry the baptisms inclluded the occupations of the fathers which was very helpful! Also the condition for the couples at marriage and the home parish for bride and groom (again the marriages were on the IGI but without this extra info) Merry |

There are not many parishes on and some of them are very old. I haven't found them very useful at all. |

If the parish you need is there, then they're very helpful. But there aren't many parishes on. |

Heidi, I have full membership to Ancestry, the parish records section is useless!! It gave me three records for the whole of Kent. Karen x |

Can you access them on a basic subscription, how complete are they, are they indexed etc etc ? I'm too impatient for my next trip to use the microfiche readers.... Any other advice appreciated. |
