I know you're not supposed to do it like this, but I'm going forwards rather than backwards. My Gt Gt Grandfather had a younger brother and I'd like to find out who his descendants are, if there are any. These are my mother's father's family and, unfortunately, they have all been dead for a very long time so there is nobody I can ask. I know other names in the family and I am using that as a possible guideline Lyndsey |

Depends what info you are looking for. For instance to find a maiden name I picked the most unique named child of the family closest to a census year and ordered the cert to get back a stage further. I then eventually got the right cert after I found the parents marriage. If however you know that info and want to confirm it's your ancestor try and narrow down the odds like finding which registration district it would have likely to occurred etc. |

It was in 1911 can't remember which quarter. If you order from the GRO and you know who one of the parents is you can add a ref checking point to your order and they refund £3.00 if it's not the right one. |

september 1911 any thing before that you need to try tracking all the possibles to eliminate the one's that are not yours. also use mothers/fathers name as a reference to check you have the correct cert Roy |

In what year did the birth registries begin adding the mother's maiden name on the entries? I am looking for a possible birth of a child of Hannah and Henry Bearsley who married in Foleshill in 1863. I've only got a few years in and already there are several possibilities? What do other people do in these circumstances? Thanks Lyndsey |
