Elenor Penzance library is the nearest! But I suggest you google for Cornwall County Libraries - their Site should lead you to loads of information on Cornish Family History. Good luck. Olde Crone (Hayle, near Penzance) |

wow my first bit of real detective work ;) tell me if im doing the right thing here. I assume prospect place in penzance could possibly have been knocked down now and rebuilt on so if i find an old map to see the nearest landmark or something, then look in present day to see the closest library? would that work? |

It's very difficult to do address searches on Ancestry censuses and there's no guarantee that someone living there 1901 would still be there in 1923. But you could e-mail the relevant records office/library and ask them nicely if they could check the electoral roll for that year or maybe the one before to see which adults are living there. (Elizabeth would qualify to vote after 1918 if she was married). nell |

You could try finding Elizabeth Jane Maddern's marriage to Mr Nichols. Their ages and fathers' names would help you locate them on the 1901 census. You could look for a death for Elizabeth Jane and a later marriage for Leonard Fry senior. |

This is confusing as hell, so grab a coffee and sit comfortably ;0) My Grandfather was registered in Cornwall as Leonard Joseph Fry, his mother was Elizabeth Jane Nicholls formerly Maddern. I have his birth certificate and there is a line though fatther on the certificate. Now, my mother can remember whilst living with her parents when she was little, living with a man also called Leonard Fry, thought to be her grandfather, and a step mother, who was not called Elizabeth. Where did Elizabeth go and where did this leonard come from? Anyone have any ideas on how I could even begin to track these names. On the certificate Leonard Joseph Fry was born at 7 Prospect Place, Penzance, Cornwall on 13/05/1923 |
