my 6th great grandfather george Elliott born in Nottingham ( Im sure its St Marys...But not 100% sure) in circa 1814 he was sent to Tasmania as a convict aboard the John Barry in 1835 as it states on the old baily records states he was 19 at the time. He married a woman by the name of sarah Cooper when he arrived in Tasmania on the 25th Dec 1840 in launceston tasmania. I would dearly love to know who his parents were so i could move on but i cant find anything. so far i have come up with possible years he was born. 1808 1809 1810 1811 1812 1813 1814. if any body out there could help in looking for him i would be for ever gratful to you. He has over 2100 descendents in australia but i would dearly love to go further back in my searching. Thanks Again

hi there, i don't know if this helps on familysearch.org the igi individual record for southwest pacific shows a marriage of george elliot to sarah cooper 24/12/1840 in tasmania. george is stated as being 22 years of age which would make his year of birth 1818.

thats the right one but doesn't list who his parents are. this is what i have. ELLIOTT – George Died 5 March 1888 Age 76 years that would make him being born in 1812. another item i have of his is this Convict Number 23748 Session 16th October 1833 (p 187) William Harrison and George Elliott (Both previously convicted) accused of stealing on 18th August 1833 from the person of Thomas Barker one hat, one key and a halfpenny (value c. two shillings one and a half pence). Both pleaded not guilty, both found guilty. Sentence to be transported for 7 years). Elliott George, aged 18 tried 16th October 1833 at Nottingham Quarter Sessions, sentenced for 7 years. Origin Nottingham, St Mary. Transported 1834 to Van Dieman's Land, Tasmania aboard the John Barry. that puts him at 1815 see my delemma.

there is nothing on the wedding cert. just states that he was 22 years and sarah was 16 again that would make him being born in 1818

The marriage certificate should show his father's name and occupation - and hers. Have you tried to acquire it from Tasmania?
