I've just noticed that you can search the BMD indexes for 1984 - 2004, but only if your a member, which im not at the mo. Has anyone used those indexes and if so what they like? Is it worth becoming a member of Ancestry? |

Have I not been paying attention or have they added the images to the FreeBMD section on ancestry. Have just been looking up some marriages - when I get to the right person and click on ´view record´ - you then get the details as usual but next to it is an icon of the image - which you can click on to view the actual image. Useful if you want to check it has been transcribed correctly. Just haven´t noticed this before. |

I just presumed it wasn´t working for the non Ancestry subscribers as it was working fine for me last night. (There was a query about it last night on the general board) Have now tried it again and not working at all - so maybe just a hiccup in the system. |

Hi Elaine, Yes I noticed that! Apparantly you need to click on the birth year you are searching for, then on the quarter, then on the first letter of the last name, then scroll through thousands of pages to find your person! I give up using it cause of this, it takes toooooo long! Sarah |

It looks as if Ancestry has withdrawn the free search of the BMD´s (complete images) for non-Ancestry subscribers. When you put a name and year in it comes back with ´no matches found´. I know a lot of us point people in the direction of the free search facility on Ancestry - just be aware that at the moment it is either not working or has been withdrawn. UPDATE - maybe just a temporary problem as not working properly for Ancestry subscribers either! |
