Wow! Linda, thank you so much. No wonder I couldn't find them. Ron indeed! Another missing piece of the puzzle found. :-) Peter in NZ, the birth certificates I have so far indicate they were married. But that doesn't mean they couldn't have just been pretending to be. However...I think I may now have found them on the 1841 census with 2 earlier children I didn't know about, so perhaps the date of marriage is earlier than I have been looking for. have looked at original image can only assume transcriber had been at the sherry! It doesn't say Ron but looks like Rose cant read occupation, but looks like they are living on a country estate, familt nextdoor has a groom in occupation

Betsey Shirley was born about 1815 in Quorndon, Leicestershire and was Christened there in 1817. Her parents were John Shirley (sometimes spelt Sherley) and Elizabeth. John and Elizabeth Shirley are not in Quorndon in 1841, and presuming they are not dead, I don't know where they may be. Betsey Shirley had at least 8 children with Richard Rose but try as I might I cannot find a marriage for them. I know there is the possibility that they never married, but I have to hope! The first child that I know about is Elizabeth Shirley Rose born abt. 1844 in Thurlow, Suffolk so I would presume any marriage would be before this date. Since I cannot find either Richard Rose, Betsey Rose (if she was married) or Betsey Shirley on the 1841 census I cannot narrow down the date any more. I cannot find Richard and Betsey and their family on the 1851 census either. Other children that should show up at this point are Annis Shirley Rose born abt. 1847 in either Thaxted, Essex or Thurlow, Suffolk (she couldn't make up her mind in later censuses!), Fanny Rose born abt. 1849 in Thaxted, Essex and possibly Frank Rose born abt. 1851 in Battersea, Surrey. Richard Rose was a groom. I have found them all on the 1861 census. Please advise me how I can find the missing bits for my family. Thanks. :-) Sharon
