I had this conversation with our ward clerk not so long ago, I think she said that records have to be legally kept for 20 years

Hi Clare, As a rule I think most medical records in England are destroyed 10 years after the person has been deseased. It may be different in Scotland. Regards Lindsey

Don't forget that the NHS didn't begin until 1948 so not sure what info you might be looking for.

I don't know about that area - but I had a rellie who was in Bart's hospital in 1901 and I rang them asking if I could get any info. The kind lady sent me dates the person was admitted and when they left, as well as her usual address and what was wrong with her. If you know the hospital (if indeed he was in one) you could try getting in touch with them, also do you have his death certificate - that may give you some more clues.

hi does anybody know where i can get information on my great grandfathers medical records he died in 1948 in glamorgan area thats if they keep the records for that long thanks clare
