I'm looking for the family of Eliza Griffin, but none of the searches I've done are working, so either she is hideously mistranscribed, or they are all being economical with the truth. Even if the older family members were dead, her sister Emily should be somewhere.

Sorry, guys, I've just been looking at enumeration districts. Yes, Heather W, that's the girls in 1871. Hi Heather PT, I don't think that's the right family. They appear to be in Plumstead/Erith in 1841, 1851, 1871 and 1881. The parents at are the same address 1871 and 1881. I've got a description of the area for 1871 and have been trying to match with 1861. For two of the descriptions Ancestry has links to ordinary census pages, which doesn't help and I'm now off to see if anything is missing as I cannot believe that they suddenly all travelled out of county.

Griffin is a Welsh name???

Grrrrrrrrrrr I've just looked at Merry's list. I have a horrid feeling that they might just come under RG9/407, which is Woolwich Arsenal and missing. In 1871 they are living in East Plumstead, which is Superintendent Registrar's District of Woolwich. ##$%£~#! I think I'm conceding an honourable defeat.

Why is it that the ones we look for are on the missing pages, eh? There are millions of names and most of them no one are even bothered about looking for but as soon as we need a record to verify something - zoomph - it disappears.
