Hi Chris A couple of weeks ago, I went to a lecture where we were told that the kia records were all destroyed before ever the rest of the records were bombed. I don't know how true that is, but it may mean that you would have to use other sources like newspaper write ups. 1837online have an index which gives very basic details: where signed up, age and birthplace. Good luck.

Other than getting someone else to visit Kew for you, I don't think there is :o(( I think just under 50% of records have survived and those that have can be viewed on microfilm and then a copy taken from the film. All this is assuming he wasn't an officer? (their records are available to order through the post, if the record has survived) Merry

Its more a case of whether they have survived Im afraid Chris. They will be a Kew if they have. Have you found a medal card for him on National Archives Documents on line?

Hello! Does anyone know if you can apply for WW1 service records, and if so how do you go about it! Thanks Chris
