As a newbie i've been using PAF & Companion (trial version) and have recently been told about Family Tree Maker. I've read quite a few of the threads so far re FTM. Would it be better to go for a Beginner's pack or straight into the Deluxe version 2006 - that latter not having any additional products? I don't yet have a subscription to Ancestry and i know the Deluxe has a 90 day one. Any advice gratefully received. Marion

I dont know about anyone else but I would go straght to the proper one its very easy to use even for numpties like me , but if you look at the threads about it you may decide differently , but whatever you do decide you wont be sorry.

Thanks Val numptie :) I'm not too bad with technology (famous last words!) but just want to make sure i'm buying the right product. My Bookmarks list for useful genealogy websites i keep reading about is getting longer and longer! Marion

Hi I Love my FTM I have 2005 version, but am a member of Ancestry, another thing I could not do with out, I am finding new things on FTM everyday, different charts different ways of making notes on there, I find it a very valuable tool, go for what ever package you think is right for you. Mine was £20 with just the disc and another disc with parish records on it. If you get 90 days free Ancestry, that in it's self is worth the money you will pay. Sue
