Yesterday afternoon (2:30 ish) I phoned Chingford Mount Cemetary and asked for help re a burial. I didn't know if my grandfather was buried there but they checked the records and found him buried in Queens Road Cemetery (they hold records for both cemeteries). By 10:30 this morning I had photocopies of the original entry, the plot entry, a map of the cemetery and a map of where the grave is. What makes it more amazing is that the envelope had a second class stamp on it and they did not charge for their services. Well done Chingford Mount Cemetery and Walthamstow Council. Viv

Friend's daughter had a similar experience to Shirley, when looking for the grave of a schoolfriend who had been killed. She had no idea which cemetery, and Greenwich found the grave for her. LB Croydon charge £15 per hour (or part thereof). You can do your own look ups, but it's the same price and they kick you out if they need the room!

Well last year I got the death cert of my paternal grt gran who died in 1907. I rang the Greenwich Council to ask if they had any record of her being buried in the local cemetery.I gave them all the details I had from the cert and they said would ring me back. The NEXT day they rang back confirmed her burial with all the details including the plot & row no of her grave & that it was a general grave(ie paupers) even gave me the mobile tel no of the cemetary supervisor so I could arrange with him to show me the grave. AND the was no charge. BIG hats off to Greenwich Council parks & Cemetaries Dept.. Shirley

It is common for councils to charge for such searches. You will still be charged even if they find nothing as it has still taken time. Gwynne

do you mean for them to search which cemetery or churchyard the person is buried in?
