Paul Report 24 Apr 2006 20:53

Hi All A few weeks back I posted a message re a problem I was having with William and Thomas Grubb, that yielded some excellent leads (thanks Alter and Co) - which I have now followed up sadly to no avail. So I thought I would post again with a small amount of extra info, hoping it will generate some more leads for me to follow up. So its about 2 brothers (William and Thomas Grubb) and where they appear on the Census and BMD records. Their parents are William Grub(b) and Ann Walker b. 1817 and 1822 respectively in Padbury, Buckinghamshire; (Married 4 Feb 1839). They are a family of Labourers (Ag, Rail and Road) and seem to follow the work around. In fact the Father spent a spell in Aylesbury Gaol - 1859 for going to work in Shropshire and abandoning his family to the poor! anyway here's what I know. 1852 ---------------------- Birth William Thomas Grub 1852 Winslow, Bucks 1855 ---------------------- Birth Thomas Grubb 1855 Wellingborough, Northamptonshire (close to Wollaston) 1861 ---------------------- Famly in Shropshire. William on Census with younger brother Thomas both entered as 'Grub' William showing as born 1851 Bambery Bucks Thomas' age mistranscribed as 10 should read 6 (image is very clear) and born Wolleston Northamptonshire Ann Grub abt 1823 Bambery, Buckinghamshire, England Wife Beckjay Shropshire George Grub abt 1847 Bambery, Buckinghamshire, England Son Beckjay Shropshire John Grub abt 1843 Bambery, Buckinghamshire, England Son Beckjay Shropshire Joseph Grub abt 1857 Woluston, Buckinghamshire, England Son Beckjay Shropshire >> Thomas Grub abt 1851 Wolaston, Northamptonshire, England Son Beckjay Shropshire >> Willm Grub abt 1851 Bambery, Buckinghamshire, England Son Beckjay Shropshire Willn Grub abt 1818 Bambery, Buckinghamshire, England Head Beckjay Shropshire 1871 ---------------------- Family now in Wales No Thomas Recorded on Census, but there is a son William who is down as 15 (b.1856 Woleson, Northamptonshire) Ann Grub abt 1813 Winslow, Buckinghamshire, England Wife Bedwellty Monmouthshire Benjamin Grub abt 1862 Newnham, Worcestershire, England Son Bedwellty Monmouthshire Joseph Grub abt 1858 Winslow, Buckinghamshire, England Son Bedwellty Monmouthshire William Grub abt 1813 Padbury, Buckinghamshire, England Head Bedwellty Monmouthshire >> William Grub abt 1856 Woleson, Northamptonshire, England Son Bedwellty Monmouthshire 1881 ---------------------- Family now in Walsall (2 families living together) Again no Thomas is recorded, but William is present age 28 (b. 1853 Winslow Buckinghamshire) William is Married to Mary Meats (Mates) - I have a Marriage Record; William Grubb 1871 Jul-Aug-Sep Crickhowell Breconshire Mary Mates 1871 Jul-Aug-Sep Crickhowell Breconshire So he was in Wales for part of 1871. And just to confuse matters Willliam has a son Thomas - 14 days old. Ann Grub abt 1823 Winslow, Buckinghamshire, England Wife Rushall Staffordshire Elizabeth Grub abt 1873 Brinmere, Glamorgan, Wales Daughter Rushall Staffordshire James Grub abt 1871 Walsall, Staffordshire, England Son Rushall Staffordshire Mary Grub abt 1843 Brinmere, Glamorgan, Wales Wife Rushall Staffordshire Thomas Grub Walsall, Staffordshire, England Son Rushall Staffordshire William Grub abt 1815 Winslow, Buckinghamshire, England Head Rushall Staffordshire >> William Grub abt 1853 Winslow, Buckinghamshire, England Son (Head) Rushall Staffordshire William Grub abt 1877 Walsall, Staffordshire, England Son Rushall Staffordshire 1891 ---------------------- William's wife (Mary) back in Wales recorded as Widow, living next to her Mother and Father in Glamorgan Mary Grabb abt 1846 London, England Head Llanwonno Glamorgan George Grubb abt 1884 Wallsend, Staffordshire, England Son Llanwonno Glamorgan James Grubb abt 1872 Bryn Mawr, Breconshire, Wales Son Llanwonno Glamorgan Mauds Grubb abt 1881 Wallsend, Staffordshire, England Son Llanwonno Glamorgan William Grubb abt 1876 Wallsend, Staffordshire, England Son Llanwonno Glamorgan Thomas has popped up again - he is in sheffield with younger brother Joseph. Thomas is recorded as Lodger age 35 (b.1856 Northamptonshire) Benjamin Grubb abt 1886 Walsall, Staffordshire, England Son Brightside Bierlow Yorkshire Charles W Grubb abt 1889 Sheffield, Yorkshire, England Son Brightside Bierlow Yorkshire Eliza Grubb abt 1883 Walsall, Staffordshire, England Daughter Brightside Bierlow Yorkshire Joseph Grubb abt 1858 Buckinghamshire, England Head Brightside Bierlow Yorkshire Susannah Grubb abt 1860 Walsall, Staffordshire, England Wife Brightside Bierlow Yorkshire >> Thomas Grubb abt 1856 Northamptonshire, England Lodger Brightside Bierlow Yorkshire 1901 ---------------------- No trace of Thomas, apart from a possible Thomas Grubb living in Nantyglo (close to where the family from in Wales) So my simple questions are; 1. Can anyone find a DEATH record for Willliam Grub(b) born 1852 Winslow 2. Who is on the 1871 Census William or Thomas? 3. Whoever was recorded on the 1871 Census where was the other brother? 4. Can anyone find a death for Thomas Grubb (I have one possible in Ross) I have a number of different theories; Raging from Thomas being a solider to the family being complete liars  Any help very gratefully received. Cheers…Paul
