Could someone please advise me where I am going wrong,I keep getting duplicate mothers, undefined fathers, daughters married to uncles and my husband married to my father. Obviously I am not entering details in the correct sequence.I have deleted my tree 5 times, if I have to do so again I will give up altogether. Surely I am not the only person with this problem. I was advised to refer to the help page, the problem is I cant delete parents Rene

I have tried deleting parents from the top down, but a message tells me I cant delete a parent. Yes,this is the only program. rene

Don't you have to delete the child first and then you can delete the parent? I'm sure this is what I did after playing around a bit the other day to work out how to do it. Work from the bottom up on the line that you have a problem on ! But do make a note of the info that you need to keep so that you can key it in again correctly. Also advisable to store data in another program as a backup copy, such as free PAF program from www.familysearch.org website or the excellent Family Tree Maker software. Claire

Clair and Alan, thanks for help, will try to get the program you suggested. Maybe tomorrow I can smile again, Rene

Irene, I think I can see what you're doing wrong from your description. If you want to enter, for example, the child of a particular person, you have to click on the box containing that person's name in the top half of the screen, then click on 'add child' in the bottom half of the screen. If you don't click on the parent's name first, the child will be added as the child of whoever you last clicked on. When you add somebody's parents, after clicking on 'Add parents' the program gives you the option to choose father or mother. Whichever one you choose, the program automatically adds an empty box for the other one. So if you choose 'father', for example, when you've finished entering his details and saved them, don't click on 'Add parent' again and choose mother, because you'll be left with an undefined mother; just have a look in the top half of the screen, and you'll see that there's already a box with an undefined mother ready and waiting to be filled in. Hope this helps, Mary

Mary, thanks for your advice, I think I can see where I have been going wrong. I will delete for the 6th time and try again because I cant get rid of all the duplicates at the top of the tree, obviously they are all attached to a child. Keep your fingers crossed I am successful next attempt. Rene
