Scottish history.....help needed.

Ive gone back to the 1881 census with my family, who were then residing in Co. Durham but it seems before that they were in Scotland. I dont have a clue where to start with scottish ancestry. Any help would be much appreciated. Nick

Scottish records, which are slightly more detailed, started on 1 January 1855 and are with the Registrar General of Scotland at New Register House, Charlotte Square, Edinburgh, EH1 3YT, 0131 334 0380, www.gro-scotland.gov.uk. nell

Nick you can also try the family search web site they have lots of scottish records. If you need a hand you will need to post some names & dates. Georgina.

You might find it worthwhile to put ''Scotland'' in the thread-search. There may be some earlier tips threads which could be useful. ScotlandsPeople is a very useful site - but it's pay-per-view. Christine
