Trying to find board - what a shame?

HI All I agree but there again I do spend a lot of my time responding to the Trying to Find boards. Most of these people Ihave contacted do get back in touch and have very little more info that what is posted. It doesen't cost much to enquire whether they have recieved any info. I think GR should monitor it by asking the original poster to delete their requests once inital help has been given. I know when I have helped people I have pointed them for future use to use the Records Boards or contact me direct via PM or email. Wendy

Jess, I meant that the Tips board (this board) does that. I was agreeing with you that you can't tell if anythign has been done on the other one. T x

Agreed it would be nice if we could see responses to those messages, but then this board does that.

the trying to find board needs to be kept up to date, somewhere that records that someone has already sent the info to the requester , so that they dont get 17 identical responses...or none. I just looked at one and have left it - no way of knowing if it has already been looked at! Jess

Heather, I get the impression that the board in question is used more often than not by name collectors and not anyone seriously researching their family history. Like you, I have noticed they are not even trying the basics, there are so many free resources out there to try first and it doesn't take much searching to find them. Shame really, because those genuine requests tend to get lost among so many of what I call, 'I can't be bothered to find them for myself' posts. Especially when a certain person is putting 60 posts at a time on there grrrr T x

I never look at that board, but had a quick scan in light of recent events on here concerning a gentleman from Wales. There are so many people on their floundering when the answer is so easy for them. Ive mailed a few giving the basics to get them going - but why on earth dont GR give a whole page of the basics when these people join up.
