Carole It's possible that Richard was Samuel's dad, but I don't know how you would find out. If there's no father in the baptism record, you could try parish records to see if Jane was interviewed about the father by the parish, who would want the father to pay for Samuel's upkeep. Alternatively, Jane may have taken the father to court to get maintenance. Either way you would have to go to the records office to find out. As to the marriage - same thing, if its not on the IGI you would have to check parish marriage registers in the county records office. If they married after 1st July 1837, then the marriage should be in the GRO marriage indexes. nell |

If you susequently marry the father of the child then that child becomes legitimate......adopt the child and take on the husbands name....or just simply call youself Samuel Dover..... If none of these things happened then it is probable that she did not marry the father... 1841 Richard Dover 45 Farmer and his wife Jane 40 are living in Knaphill ....Horsell It would appear that as they did not move from the area then a search of all the church records is the only way of finding a marriage cert There is a Samuel Lee farmer and his wife Mary on the 1841 census |
