My gggrandfather was supposed to have abandoned his family in Carmarthen and come to Nailsea, Somerset where he fathered 3 more children by 2 different women. His first 'Somerset' child was born in 1851 so I know he was in Nailsea then, but I think I have found him on 1841 with his first family. I have been looking for the same family again in 1851 to see if they are now without a father, as that would narrow down the possibilities that it is not the right man. I can't actually find any of them, do any of you fancy a challenge, I might just need a fresh set of eyes. Address is Garnfach (I think that is what it says) Llanarthney, Carmarthenshire. All born in the county: David Davies Head Ag Lab 40 Anne Davies Wife 40 Margaret Davies Daughter 13 Harriet Davies Daughter 11 Archibald Davies Son 9 Mariah Davies Daughter 7 William Davies Son 3 Harbert Davies Son 1 month Sorry that it is such a common name, but this is half of my problem- he was definitely born in LLanarthney, around 1801, don't know much more than that!!! So if anyone can find any of the above in 1851, I would be most grateful!!! |

Problem is that you don't know if the children were born in LLanarthney or not, or whether they stayed there after their father left. I looked for Archibald as he has the least common name, but couldn't find him. nell |

I know Nell, this is one of the limitations of the 1841 census. I was hoping to find Anne Davies as head with at least some of the younger children at home in 1851, that would then back up the idea that this was his 'abandoned' family. Unfortunately it has not been that easy, I could not find Harbert either, he would only have been 10 so I would have expected him to be with his mother somewhere. |

There's a Maria who fits, in Llandybie, again a servant. No single Margaret Davies of the right age so guess she is married. |
