Help required to read a street name in 1861 census.The details are for George Hayward age 40 Berthing master b. Bridgwater Elizabeth age 40 b. Bridgwater Albert age 15 b. Bridgwater Edwin age 13 b. Bridgwater Elizabeth age 11 b. Bridgwater Sarah age 9 b. Cardiff John age 7 b. Cardiff Reference at bottom of page RG 9/4036 The street number is No 29 however the street name could be anything but my guess is West Bute Street. Could someone with better eyes or the ability to look at page before or page after, if possible, please check street name. Thanking you John from Balmain Sydney |

It isn't any easier to read on the previous pages! But it does say that it is in enumeration district 17, so I checked the description, which is written in equally scrawly writing, but it does look like Bute Road to West Bute Street, so I think you can assume your original idea is right. nell |

Hi John. Yes I thought it was West Bute Street too, I checked it on Streetmap (.) com and there is such a street in Cardiff. Hoping this helps. Happy Hunting Linda |

West Bute Street If you click on 'Cardiff St Mary' in blue above the image.......then look at the description of the Enumeration district (17), it is more clearly written there. Reg |
