yes, June.. she was - according to marriage cert - born in Manchester, so the London one is not likely, I think. Good move on the name, though. I thought I went through the variations a while back, 2 ps or not 2 ps, that is the question... LOL... Herbert Richard's name could be either with an I or an E - the writing on the census is a bit cramped, but his is 2 ps. I think that Emily was a 'love child' not registered - but how did she know Herbert's name? So, it's off to order a marriage cert for him, and see if Annie was Esther.. but she wasn't born in Plumstead. And as I remember, not the right age. It makes my head spin. Then Emily went off and married a Jones... Joy to you, June, thanks! Michael |

Annie and Emily Heppinstall were my wife's gg-mother and g-mother. I can find them in 1881, Emily is the right one according to her marriage cert's details, born in Manchester. She also appears in 1891 as a milliner's apprentice in London (Heppenstall, though). Annie was listed as 'Head' in 1881, born in Plumstead, Kent, 1850. Emily's father was Herbert Richard Heppinstall on her marriage cert. He seems to be on 1861 and 1871 censuses, if you can forgive a change of spelling to Heppenstall and some dob changes. Apparently his birth was registered in 1853, but censuses say 1854. He seems to have married - not to Annie - in 1872. Emily's birth seems not to have been registered, been to FRC for it, and neither does Annie's marriage. I'm about to look for certs for Herbert's marriage and birth, but I want to get at Annie! Just one on-line census entry is unsatisfying. Can anyone check my line of reasoning above - is it all my imagination that these are the right people - there aren't many choices on line? And give me a clue where to go next. I'm in Canada, so I can't get to the local registrars or churches, even if I knew where they were. Michael |
