I was just wondering, if a child was adopted at say 2+ years old would they keep the same birth name and just change the surname or would their birth name always be changed to another completly new name?? Thanks Rosi

Hi, I adopted a boy 26 years ago. His name was David as was my own son 5 years older. We changed his name by calling him David ? and then gradually dropping the David. It worked a treat. Hope this helps. Jackie

First name : easiest answer is , who knows? maybe, maybe not ! Adoptive parents will have been at complete liberty to do so, but may have chosen not to. Surname will have changed for sure. Not very helpful! Jess

As Jess says the parents might change the christian name, but then again they might not.It is a completely free choice for the adoptive parents to make. Glen

Thank you all for your answers....I was just thinking that it must be confusing for the child to get used to one name then have it changed a few years later. Rosi
