Can I just space it out a bit? Dear all, Does anyone have a good way of checking whether an IGI hit is the correct one? I’m searching for a John Terrill (born c1795), and in particular his parents (and his parents parents etc – but his parents would be an excellent start). I have the information below. I think I have found him, but am not sure as there are a variety of spelling variations of Terrill around, and it doesn’t particularly help that his Father’s name was John as well! It would be really good if some kind person could do a bit of research, to see if they come to the same conclusion as me. This John Terrill is my greatx3 Grandfather. Many, many thanks, Paul Terrill Marriage Cert: 24 March 1840, Handsworth, Stafford. John Terrill married Eliza Gabriel. John Terrill was a Baker. Both resident in Birmingham at time of marriage. John Terrill’s Father was also John Terrill. He was a Baker & Maltster. (Eliza Gabriel’s Father was Thomas Gabriel, Machine maker.) Death Cert: 26 Sep 1850, St Thomas Birmingham. John Terrill, 52 Grant Street, Birmingham, age 55 years, Baker. Son’s Birth Certificate: 29 Oct 1850, St Thomas Birmingham. John Terrill, 52 Grant Street, Birmingham. Father, John Terrill (deceased), Baker. Mother Eliza Terrill, formely Gabriel. 1841 Census: St Peter Birmingham, Fox Street. Jno Terrill (Ferrill on the ancestry transcript), age 45, Baker Journeyman, born Warwickshire. Eliza Terrill, age 26, paper stainer, born Warwickshire. One child, Thos Terrill age 1 mth. I think this is the same family, but it might not be! Difficult to say, but if you have an opinion on this as well, that would be good. 1851 Census: I can find Eliza with two children, Edward and John. Obviously no husband John Terrill as he is deceased. |

Have you looked on the IGI? There is this one: IGI Individual Record FamilySearch™ International Genealogical Index v5.0 British Isles Search Results | Download | Pedigree -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- JOHN TERRILL Male -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Event(s): Birth: Christening: 24 JUN 1797 Alcester, Warwick, England Death: Burial: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Parents: Father: JOHN TERRILL Family Mother: ANN -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Messages: Extracted birth or christening record for the locality listed in the record. The source records are usually arranged chronologically by the birth or christening date. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Source Information: Batch No.: Dates: Source Call No.: Type: Printout Call No.: Type: C035453 1782 - 1875 0557290 Film 0932903 Film You would probably have to check the parish records to see what the father's occupation was. Was he a bachelor when he married Elizabeth? And genes always jumbles up the original posting, it's usually easier just to type 'see below' or something and then type your query as a reply! Sam x |

Yes, I found him thanks, and was wondering whether it was the right one. I have also found the marriage of a John Terrill and Ann Stephens on IGI, 11 MAY 1795 Alcester, Warwick, England. In the 1841 census there is: Civil Parish of Alcester, Warwickshire Evesham Street, John Terrill, 70, Grocer, WAR Ann Terrill, 70, WAR The ages roughly match. Could a baker & maltster also have been known as a grocer? And if so, is this do people think that these are my John Terrill's parents?! |
