Thanks to help from this board I located my g.father, Albert Kirby (b 1890) in the 1891 census. I know this is long - but help needed please. Thanks to help received on theis board I managed to locate my g.father, Albert Kirby in the 1891 census. He was one year old and lived at Hinton Road, Loughborough Junction (near Brixton), London with his mother Jane Kirby aged 30, and his two older brothers, Charles 4 (a confirmed siblings name), and Thomas 3. Jane was Head, shown as a spinster (I think), and had no employment listed. I know that there were other siblings born later, but have no names. It is likely that Jane married at some point and that her three boys may have taken their step-fathers surname. (How could I possibly find this out?) However, my g.father must have taken his own name back as an adult, because Kirby (his mother's maiden name) is still the family name. He married, had children and lived out his life in Walworth, London. Here's the thing! This is the one and only detail that I can find out about Jane. I cannot find Jane (b Clerkenwell, London about 1861) in any previous or later census, or in any BMD entry. It's like she landed on earth for the 1891census and then vanished. Although it is unlikely that she would really have travelled far in her life. I want so much to find out more about Jane but am stuck fast! Any help, info or tips gratefully received folks! Linda

Jess, Why are there two mens names mentioned for each suggestion? Linda
