I've just been looking at Belston, even that was a very unusual name, can't see any in London area. |

Are you sure about the surname Bebton for the witnesses? A check on Ancestry is not bringing anyone up. I was thinking it could be her sister and husband. |

Any clues in the witnesses to Frances' wedding? |

Is it possible that Frances was illegitimate or maybe her father was really her stepfather, and that she appears on earlier censuses with a different surname? nell |

My Great Grandfather William James Spain married Frances Evans in 1875 aged 17 in Deptford kent. Her Father is named as William Evans - Carpenter. The address on the wedding certificate is given for William as Napier Street but for Francis it is unreadable (Bloke, Boles, Rose!!! ) Cottages. I have tried everyway I can to find more info about Frances and her family but to no avail. The only Frances Evans I can find in Deptford has a father named Ben. (Even thought it might have been written down as Ben instead of Bill but there is a son called Benjamin so I have ruled them out ). On some censuses William said he came from Deptford, others he came from Folkestone - he was in fact born in Folkestone. Frances (b about 1859) says Deptford but on one census she says Hackney. Is there anyone out there who can help me sort this one out? I cant get her birth cert without further info. and it is such a common name I am well and truly stuck. I also have a middle name of Elizabeth but cant for the life of me remember where I got this info from but I wouldnt have included it in my tree if I wasnt sure of it. Thanks Chris |
