I have just been to the CWGC site and managed to find both John Edward Barley and his brother William. (I'd entered the christian name instead of the surname, no wonder I couldn't find them!) It is a wonderful site , I was able to get a certificate with their details and a photo of the memorial thatt they are featured on. It also gave me details of an address and of John's wife! Highly recommened! Lynn : )

Hi Lynn If you look on the National Arcives site, I think he's there. Look in the seamans records under John Barley. http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/browse-refine.aspCatID=15&searchType=browserefine&pagenumber=1&query=*&queryType=1 Hope you find him. Heather

I recently found a couple of family members on the Barton upon Humber war memorial ( with a little help ). I then went on the CWGc site and found one of them and then found his medal card at the NA. However, I couldn't find the entry for John Edward Barly, who served in the Navy on either site, so is it different for the Navy? He died 4/1/1918 according to the memorial.
