Looking for the birth of my G Grandmother. She was born in Australia (Qld) but I cannot find her registered. On the marriage cert she has signed a cross for her signature and she did not know her parents names??? States that she was born in Roma Qld. Where do I go from here. This is giving me a headache.

Katrina, I know how you feel. I don't know if my headache is from looking at the computer or pulling my hair out. Do you know her married name or her husband's name, or her childrens' names and dates of birth? You might be able to go sideways. Are you in Qld? If so try googling the local family history centres. I'm a member of the Central Qld one. They may cover Roma. Let me know what you have and I'll see what I can do.

I think my headache is from pulling my hair out!!! Margaret's married name is Leonard. Maggie was George's second wife. I know all the children's names. Her name is spelt differently on nearly all the births. She lived in the Clermont/Ruby Vale area for quite some time. She is buried at Emerald cemetery. Yes I am in Nth Qld. Are you from the Rockhampton group?

Hi Katrina, I live in Brisbane, but it is the Rockhampton group I belong to. Have you tried them? I'm happy to if you haven't.

Elizabeth I haven't tried them, but do know of them. I found out some more information last night. The station where Margaret was married was owned by William Johnston which could be where she got her name from as they say that sometimes they can take on the last name of station owners??? Or maybe he fathered her illigitimately before he married his wife??? My headache is growing!!

Katrina, I don't suppose Margaret was Aboriginal was she. If so there is a lot of family tracing that has been done and I have a good friend who can point you in the right direction. I just wish i had some. My pommie lot just don't want to be found. PS I'll put the station stuff on that posting.
