I have the marriage certificate in front of me of John Matthews and Rose Anna Cowie for the 9th June 1918, but cannot find reference for either of them on the GRO reference. Whats going on??

I e-mailed them about my own record, which is incorrect. I've never had a reply (not even an acknowledgement), so maybe I picked the wrong address. Must try again! Christine

Mines wrong too - I thought Id have to go through life as Hoather - but they replied saying that it was ok on the original and this must be due to digitalisation of the index (I think that means they dont know and dont care actually)

It seems to me that if something is an ''index'' then it needs to have correct info in it to function properly! Christine

If you want to amend a registration you HAVE to go to the register office where the original event was registered and give them the information. They then have to ask the GRO for permission to amend the cert. Or so I was told when I enquired about changing the details on my grandfather's death cert. I can't be bothered to go all the way to Ashford in Kent to do this - but I know the right info anyway. nell
