Reggie, I have read your thread again, my mistake, I thought you were saying that the ASC was only formed in 1918? that’s why I posted the info from regiments.org , Regards Roy

Noting the helpful comments so far on this thread, can anybody clarify how you confirm when a relative joined a particular regiment? I know my grandfather was in the Royal Army Medical Corp in Italy. What he had done to deserve that I'll never know. Whilst I know he was at Monte Cassino, I'm not sure if he had been in Sicily first, or joined before the four month 'push' for the monastery. Any clues anyone? many thanks michael

Reggie, are you sure about that? 1888.12.11 Army Service Corps formed by amalgamation of Commissariat and Transport Staff (officers), and Corps (other ranks), including War Department Fleet (established 1855) 1902 Mechanical Transport Section transferred from Royal Engineers 1914 Inland Water Transport transferred to Royal Engineers 1918.11.25 Royal Army Service Corps from http://www.regiments.org/regiments/uk/corps/RASC.htm#history By Royal Warrant the Army Service Corps added Royal to its title in late 1918. The modern descendant of the ASC is the Royal Logistics Corps. from http://www.1914-1918.net/asc.htm Roy

The ASC was not a regiment, and, as such, would not be posted anywhere en bloc. (It became the RASC in 1918). It was a Corps, whose members were deployed individually, or in small groups. They included drivers and other transport support staff. The modern version is the Royal Logistics Corps, which was formed from the RASC and RCT (Royal Corps of Transport) Reg

I'm trying to identify a family in a photo I have taken in Singapore. My Gt Uncle was in the Army Service Corps & I wondered if anyone knows if the ASC did a tour in Singapore around 1910ish. The Uniform is what I would describe as a white tropical no1 uniform, with a WO or Staff Sgt badge of rank on the right sleeve. I have his medal card but there is no mention of Singapore on it, have also tried googling but to no avail. Any help much appreciated, Many thanks, June x
