Where is he? I know my Southwell Rowett died on 19 April 1885 in Baumber and his death record lists the place as Baumber (Lincolnshire) and the church as St Swithins! The thing is we went there in February and read every gravestone in there and not one Rowett!!!! So where is he? Any tips gratefull accepted! Julie xxx

You need to check the burial register to see if he was buried at the church (are there any cemeteries in the area thet stretch back that far?) If he is in the churchyard, he doesn't have to have had a gravestone. Most ordinary people had no permanent gravemarker :o(( Merry

Julie I have this problem with some of mine. You will probably find it's the church itself you need to contact as they will keep records of who is buried where within the graveyard. The parish register will only usually tell you if they are buried in that graveyard but NOT the location Snowdrops

Hi Julie It is possible that he is in there but maybe they couldn't afford a headstone or maybe it has been removed for saftely reasons or something. I have been supplied with maps and grave references for my rellies in some cemeteries/graveyards and when I go there, there is nothing there to mark the grave at all. Sam x
