how do i know about an inquest ?

can someon tell me how would i know if an inquest was done on a rellies death ? would it say so on the death cert and for what reason would an inquest be done. where would you find out any info about an inquest? love linda x ps off to bed now but will read replies in the morning Zzzz!!!

Hi Linda, I found a note in the burial register that the death was certified by someone I knew to be a solicitor and then found a report of the inquest in the local paper. This was in 1914. Heather

Hello I sent for a death certificate on a ggrandmother on which was stated certificate recieved from the deputy coroner for Birmingham inquest held on the 18th of August. 1879 I sent to the Birmingham Central Archives who sent me copies of the inquest report and statements. Which gave me information on a brothers wife and led me back to the family. I was not sure if I had the correct person. Pam

Yes, if you send for the death certificate you will know if there was an inquest.

If there was an inquest the coroner certifies the death, so it show show on the certificate.

thanks everyone for your help, that sorts that out then the death cert i have doesnt mention an inquest. love linda x
