I have found rellies on 1881: Source information: RG12/1927 Registration district: Erpingham Sub registration district: Holt ED, institution, or vessel: 11 Folio: 61 Page: 4 (click to see others on page) GSU Number: 1341465 The Burroughes family, living at Custom House. The third person in the family is hard to read and has been transcribed as John aged 14, born in Surrey (everyone else born in Norfolk) I've not come across him before, so my questions are - do you think the name is John? - Would you think it likely that this is mum's son that the Burroughes adopted? or have any other likely possibilities as to WHY she went to London to have him. Rather glaringly I haven't yet found the parent's marriage ref, though the first of the Norfolk born lot was in 1869. Thanks Sarah :-)

OOps, I've only just printed out my census's - Yes, he's on 1871 too - but still born in London... :-)

Maybe... (from freeBMD) Marriage Mar 1866 Burroughs Stephen B Randall Rebecca M Erpingham 4b 101 The R of John is probably Randall. He /may/ have been born before they married.

Yes, that's them Tracy - Thanks! So it looks like they were married when John was born. Any ideas why someone would go to London to have a baby. I realise that she may have been visiting & he came early. :-)

I dunno... they're both in Norfolk in 1861. She's in Cley, he's in Attleborough.
