Hi, my gg grandfather was a confectioner in the 1900's and i was wondering if a FHS would help me find some info on him if there were some around? I live a few hundred miles away so its not possible for me to visit and do the research myself (other than online)

You could try the website www(.)a2a(.)org access to archives, you do a search and it will tell you if there are any archives and where they are held
