Thanks Anne, I hadn't thought of that. I will try to subscribe to Ancestry tomorrow. It seems to be the one most people use. I've used it a few times just on the free site. Actually that London one is a stray family member. Most are Devon, Cornwall and Essex. |

Elizabeth, When you search Ancestry remember 'less is more' when you enter things in the search. Surnames are more likely to be mistranscribed/misrecorded than first names so its often a good idea to just put the first name, date of birth and place of birth in. You get lots of results but a trawl through a page or two usually brings up something that looks a bit like yours. Obviously this is easier with a small parish rather than your London ones but it is usually still possible. You can even just put in a date and place of birth and trawl through the results - try it and see! The point is that your eyes can usually spot a result that looks like your family when no amount of specified search can pick it up. Am I making sense? Experiment with one you already know and see how easy it is to find them with a small amount of info in the search form. Hope that helps Anne |

Elizabeth I got this info from Ancestry UK, I find it is a must for all census's from 1851-1901 and the 1841 is due to be added soon. Georgina. |

Thank you Paul and Georgina. Would you mind telling me where you get this info. I don't really know where to get this stuff. I'm fairly housebound so have to rely on computer. Can you get this on Ancestry and if so which one UK or World? Is there anything else you suggest I buy? I'd love to be able to help others this way. I use family search a bit. |

Yes, there was an 1891 census. There has been a census every 10 years since 1801, but only 1841 onwards is much use in family history, and censuses open to the public stop with 1901. The 1911 census is due to be released 2012, the 1931 census was destroyed and there wasn't one in 1941 because of the war. Who are you looking for, and when and where were they born? nell |

Firstly a big THANK YOU to 'Pete of Glos' and Sheila for their help. I'm starting to feel like Peter's 'info grabber', but I am lost. I have a family on the 1861 census and again in 1881 and those still living in 1901. I had a couple of sets of wonderful eyes search and can't find them in 1871 or 1891. Was there an 1891 census? Any ideas. |
