Not sure what that is, but a cutler was a knife maker/sharpener/seller. Spring knife sounds like either what we now call a pen knife or (heaven forbid) some kind of flick knife with the blade on a spring. I am probably wrong but thats what it seems like. T x |

It appears to be the knife that opened on a spring at both ends, the old fashioned pocket /penknife that later had lots more gizmos added to the design. So he was a maker of the spring knife. usually made in Sheffield Shirley |
