Thank you all for trying. Having found Frederick's father on his marriage certificate as James, I must admit that I think either James or the previous generation came from Waterford. On IGI I have found William Kelly and Rebecca Lyons from Waterford and these names are consistent with info provided by Dad (donkeys years ago). I don't know whether James Kelley was born in England or Ireland - I only know his name is on Frederick Kelley's marriage cert. as 'father'. He was what I think, is a 'poster' - difficult to read. His residence at that time is given as Bedminster. I thought the cert. would help me work back but it seems to have thrown up more probs !!! I'll keep at it - all the time I can see !!!! (Plays hell with the eyes). Thanks all for your help - much appreciated. J.x |

The Bedminster records are in the Bristol Records Office. I can't see them online I'm afraid. There are some Bristol records on IGI but they don't tend to be Church of England records. To get any further back you will either need to go and look at the microfiches in Bristol yourself or find someone else to do it for you. There are professional genealogists who do lookups and they are often cheaper than asking records Office staff to do it. Otherwise you might be fortunate and find a volunteer who does lookups and would be prepared to help. This might help http://www.bafhs(.)org(.)uk/ Remove brackets Best wishes Sue |

Hi, The 1841 will only tell you if a person was born in or out of county, sadly. Gwynne |

There are lots of James Kelly's on 1851 but none from Bristol. Most are Irish. I could not find Rebecca born Bristol either. I think the best thing would to put a request for a loook up on 1841 census for both the bride and groom which should give county of birth. Bristol fhs will look up the 1828 birth for a fee of about £2.00 but I don't think their Bedminster records go back to 1800. |

Thanks Marion. Frederick George Kelley married Elizabeth Blann 12 Nov 1848 - parish church Bedminster in the county of 'Bristol, Somerset'. Father of Frederick George was James Kelley, a 'poster' it looks like. Could be 'bill poster'? Want to work backwards from James. Any help would be appreciated. The next generation back could possibly be a William and Rebecca but can't be sure. J PS Got to go offline now - something come up. Will have a look later or tomorrow. Many thanks. |

I received a marriage cert today confirming a marriage in 1848. I know the person concerned was born in 1828 and now I know his father's name. Have spent nearly all day trying to find any further details with no result. Both originated in the Bristol area. The bride from Monmouth. The cert says 'Bedminster' in the county of Bristol/Somerset'. Can anyone give me a pointer please?? I would be so grateful. |
